Milky film

I’m fairly new at this and today I had casement windows that when I scrubed them a milky film appeared on the glass. Windows still looked good when I was done, but just wondering what this was.

Thanks,
Steve

inside or outside?

Was it aluminum or vinyl clad?

Assuming it was a vinyl clad exterior window you are likely dealing w/ oxidation of the cladding. It breaks down in the sun and when water hits it you get the milky film.

Could you guys take out of my ignorance and explain me what’s this clad thing ?

CLAD, more or less, means “covered”. So a vinyl “clad” frame, could be a wood core frame “clad” in vinyl, or aluminum.

It was aluminum clad. That makes sense that it was oxidation. Any suggestions for dealing with it or just go as normal? I’m looking at purchasing WFP. Is oxidation going to be an issue with the WFP or will it just flush away with the water?

It will take a better scrub and rinse when you have oxidizing frames but it works well.

Thanks for the explanation, I always thought the frames were painted and that same paint was being washed off. I hate when that happens and we are cleaning by hand.
