My customer thinks the low e went bad on her windows what do you think I don't know

Bad Low E?

Definitely!

thanks

anybody know why?

Nature of the beast,my friend. Could be any number of reasons.

I wonder if the window manufacturer put the window together with the wrong side of the Low-E coating facing out. I don’t know. Just a question that came to me.

ok thanks I’ll let her know

I’ve always heard that the reason for this was that the Low-E coating (specifically the silver used in the coating) has “oxidized”.
Here’s an article that mentions how the soft-coating low-e (sputterized) can oxidize.
Low E Glass – Types and Benefits | Ask the Builder

Seal breaks somewhere (probably expansion and contraction) and oxygen gets inside. Oxygen plus Low-E equals funny colors.

Go with a bad seal.
That’s what I,d say

Low E failure due to broken seal for sure. I see this all the time. It can be repaired with a BRICK.

Im a new to this, so would this be the cleaners fault?

Are low e windows not cleanable? Please explain

The low e-coating is always supposed to be on the inside these days. I think Pella does have some problem windows that require you to open the windows up and cleaning them is crazy imposable according to a recent blog post. Yes you can clean Low E glass. If the Low E coating is on the outside then the window was made incorrectly and this has happened before. I have never seen it, but others have commented on this problem.

Was the window built in St. George? Always interesting how it looks once the seal breaks, funny washer markings on that one. Had one a few weeks ago that it was obvious someone squeegeed the #2 surface in the factory before putting it together…no clue why someone would ever do that before insulating.

What brand are those? I’ve seen that happen specifically on Marvin’s

As per Pioneer Services response earlier… but no the window cleaner is not at fault.

It’s a installation/manufacturing f**k-up.

However - it’s usually the window cleaner that gets the blame!

(window cleaners get the blame for everything - even if the dog is sick - it’s our fault :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

Not true, ALL window seals will fail eventually as the compounds used to seal the window will fail…might be 5 years or could be 50.

Thats true…

But my indication was thats it’s not the WC’s fault. The fault lies elsewhere.
