Swear to god… I was “this close” to doing the same last night!
(just got a new one in the mail, earlier)
I put them in together and pulled the scrim out right before the agitation began.
What’s worse is, I cut it in half and realized I don’t have a sewing machine.
Then called mom, and hers is basically a ‘no go.’
Girlfriends are too young to tell time on a regular clock, “phones tell time- and they’re digital.”
so they sure as shit can’t sew!
Found a near-by tailor online, went there this morning, and they were no longer in business.
Oh man you gotta get a dry cleaner that does alterations as a customer! Whenever I get new scrim and cut them in half I bring them to my customer and they haven’t scrims hemmed by the time I finish their windows

Wetting them that way was when I started wetting them, wetting is better if you damp it lightly with a spray bottle and the keep it in a pouch to keep it damp…
I get 100% linen
Med to Heavy weigh
I get about 3 per yard
Get them hemmed
Soak in 5 gallon bucket of water with a cup of white vinegar for 20-30 min
Then Into the washer and bamm!!!
Good to go!!!
I have never tried a linen blend …

Yeah my Joann’s doesn’t have pure linen. But from what I read online and I know I can trust the info I find on the internet: rayon is super absorbent.
The fabric I got, after hemming it, stays straight and just sucks the water off the window. I love it. The scrims on the other hand have wrinkled around the edges and don’t seem to suck as much. They’re still better than hucks.
But I’d really like to find a lighter fabric to make it easier to wrap around my pole, so my goal this weekend is to find a joann’s coupon and get a few yards and see what’s what. I’m hoping I can find a dark/black fabric to hide the sill skidmarks.

I think I will go coupon ing also to give the rayon blend a whirl
What ratio blend did you get??
I am thinking about using it in my flexi clamp
I use a huck in it now to catch any detailing Especially above door numbers

If you can’t hem the scrims it’s really no drama, I’ve been using scrims cut in half for about 3years now and haven’t hemmed any of them. Ye they crinkle up a bit but they crinkle when hanging from ya belt anyway so really doesn’t matter. Also sow 2 micro fibre 40x40mm towels together and they are about the same size as the cut scrims, that way you also have the perfect size micro towel

Last night I even went to the interweb to look up how rayon is made and out of what materials ( very interesting stuff…)
And to look up it’s wicking capacity.
Berry interesting!!
I am defiantly going to Joanne’s today to pick up a linen rayon blend to try out.
Peace out

I have tried the " non hemmed" scrims way back and it started unraveling quick.
That unraveling scrim, I purchased it from the UK so maybe that was the problem??
No matter, all my scrims now be hemmed

They have a really heavy canvas type fabric in the back on rolls. That’s what I got. But if I remember right, they have a thinner fabric up front and they have darker colors.
I didn’t make it this weekend, but I’m going to try and pick some up today.
I actually just watched that like last week randomly haha.
I tried the scrim at full size and it just felt wrong. I cut the Unger scrim in half, had the edge hemmed, they’re bigger than a blue towel but big enough where I use one a day and often can use that same one for a couple days of route work.
I just couldn’t get on with the scrim at full size.
Do you use full size scrim?

I still use my scrim at the original size and it can be a bit of a bear to deal with at times but I haven’t had the guts to cut it. I think a 2ft x 2ft scrim would be the perfect size. I believe the problem is that the material comes in 3 ft widths off the roll and cutting it down to 2ft wide would create a lot of waste. Or you could have some 2x2 and 1x1 scrims.

Mike: I didn’t like working with a full size scrim either so I had a seamstress cut them all in half. Then I had some thoughts. Are my friends that love the full size scrim idiots? Are all the guys in the UK knuckle heads who don’t realize their towel is to big? Perhaps it’s me. Perhaps I should hang in there until I see the light.
I use a full size scrim for detailing the glass and a damp micro fiber for sills and frames. I rinse the micro fiber out in my bucket as needed and wring it out. I’m good for the whole day with those two towels.
On occasion the full size scrim comes in handy as a drop cloth when I’m reaching over something that shouldn’t get dripped on when I’m inside at a storefront window.
