Necessary to Use Pure Water On Solar Panels?

I have seen many videos on the you tube ( ProCleanSolar cleaning photovoltaic/Reinigung/pulizia fotovoltaico 2 - YouTube ) and I’m not sure if they are using pure water or not, but i m guessing not since they are prob running close to 20 gallons a minutes with some of those setups.

So my questions is or thought is, would tap water be suffice.

I have a few 500 panel jobs coming up in the near future. My RO DI system would literally be running for a few days straight.

Around here out tds is ranging from 200-450.

They do sell a solar cleaning chemical its made by winsol. It may help.save on your pure water. I would imagine tap would leave waterspots. It may not affect its performance but it probably also may not look like a professional job was done.

Thanks,

But how would it help with saving pure water?

I strongly recommend using pure water. It will save you lots of time. The time you save will more than make up for the water cost. And, you’ll be leaving no residue, so those panels will stay clean for a longer period of time.

You can view a Waterfed Class episode on solar panel cleaning here: Mile High Window Cleaning Supply . Once there, scroll down to the blog section. Keep scrolling until you see the solar panel episode.

If your not going to use DI, Give the job to someone who will. There is no better way to clean solar. Just charge enough to cover your DI cost.

If it were a big project, I’d probably go wth a soap and pressure wash. Smaller residential, wfp. May depend on how bad they are and need some agitation to get clean. I’ve experimented with my wfp, then a week later just a good rinse with 400 tds water and they looked fine.

the pure water is a selling point for you to use

Tap would look bad. Wfp isn’t the only answer, though.

The traditional squeegee and pole. Just make sure to use a lot of water to keep the panels from flashing in the sun.
