Hi everyone. I was hoping someone could give me some help with a construction cleanup bid. I’m gonna be working on a large house, it is a construction cleanup job so the windows have: paint overspray, the sealant for the wood frames on the glass and stickers that have to be removed from BOTH sides of the glass. I know this also varies from region to region.I’m located in Southern California in a very affluent area.I have attached what the job consists of,let me know what would be a correct amount to charge , I know this job is gonna be a LOT of work.
Thanks for the reply ! That sounds good to me. 2 x 3 times what the standard cleaning rate makes sense. Especially being that each side of the glass has to be completely scraped to remove all debris/paint/stickers on the glass, along with cleaning anything on the sills/tracks etc.
That job has 322 panes total, so 644 faces of glass that’ll require all the mentioned stuff above. Definitely a lot of work. Gotta make sure to estimate it correctly so that it worth all the time/hard work.
$2500 to $3000. We are more expensive than other window cleaners on construction clean up. But most of the million dollar home builders use us because we get the job done right the first time and we DONT SCRATCH THE GLASS. Almost every builder we have worked for said they have noticed fewer window with scratched glass after we are done. i document all scratched glass and any damage we come across and give them a detailed list. If there is something major on the glass they get a phone call asap and we mark the wondow and dont touch it till they see it. So many companies they deal with dont know how to remove stucco and paint off frames without removing the paint. I find when I go through and explain everything that we do and the processes and materials we use along with the price they go for it because they know realize what it takes to do a job properly. About 4 years ago I had a new builder call me up and wanted a bid on a $1.5 million home. Large glass not a ton of windows but at least a full days worth of work for one guy. I explained all that we do and it would be $800. $800 he said. are you crazy I just want the windows cleaned and to pop off the stickers. I explained again all that we do, the chemicals, the detail work, frames, glue removal, caulk and so on. He said he just didnt have that in his budget. I thanked him and said we also do scratch removal if you find you have any scratches in your glass. A month latter I got a call. SCRATCHED GLASS. 17 pieces of glass. I went out took a look and said these all look like razor blade marks. He explained he hired his brother and sister in law to clean the window. KNow the buyer wont close untill their replaced or repaired. I gave him a bid of $3500 for all the scratched glass. What do you know he had $3500 in his budget to get the glass repaired. Bottom line charge for quality work
Thanks Doc, I appreciate such a thorough response! I have a feeling the contractor is NOT going to be willing to pay me that, and is gonna think i’m crazy asking for that kind of money mainly because it’s coming out of his pocket not the homeowner.Which if that’s the case I’m ok with that, because I will ultimately pass on the job if he wants it done for cheap. It takes a lot of time/effort to do a legit job and like you said you’ve gotta charge for quality work. I’m gonna lay out the total amount of work needing completion like I did in this post and also explain the step by step process required . He’s gotta understand that just regular maintenance window cleaning for a house that large with that many windows would probably be $700-800 at least i’m guessing. And regular maintenance window cleaning is a walk in the park compared to new construction window cleaning.
Most of the time on the other ones I’ve multiplied the standard maintenance window cleaning price the job would yield by 2. This was on jobs that required paint/debris/sticker removal on each side.
