Definitely. Good eye for seeing the red flag…
Actually, that IS the quote from J D Walters. I’ve gotten other quotes for $1200 and $2400…seems out of control all around. While I understand the benefits of insurance, it pisses me off because I’m getting it only because occasionally, and I mean like two or three times a year, some homeowner wants proof of insurance so I can do his $300 job.
Ya JDW definetly isn’t the cheapest out there. They claim to give you a Wcr discount but how do you know that it’s at a discounted rate. Any way that’s besides the point there coverage has care an custody in there policy so that alone made me switch after 8 years or so with out it . No claims thank god .
So the only reason why your getting insurance is to appease a home owner ? Hmm. Not a good reason . Especially if it’s only 3 times a year. Who you appeasing lol.
That shouldn’t be the only reason though . Especially if your working in multi million dollar homes. You would be surprised at what that vase you just broke costs, or what that entrance way door cost you just scratched . Shit happens !!
Like I said before 8 years with inferior insurance switched over to JDW in the first year my 9th year in business , an my first year with JDW.
I did a power washing job. Small stand alone building one story dryvit easy job . ( Now you say ya dummy I wouldn’t of done that . I hear ya !!! sometimes your mind doesn’t think of everything). So in the front of his building he has a sign that’s says "kitchens and Baths " right above is a strip of dryvit that was dirty so I sprayed it all , sign , dryvit everything as I’m rinsing I see gold flakes my brother was liked WTF is that I’m like I don’t know dang man guess I’m going to be re-painting his sign . No big deal I know how to paint I could even get my brother Inlaw who paints for a living , throw him a few bucks were all good .
Owner pulls up how is it going I was like great everything cleaned up nice your walkway came out nice the building has all the mold an mildue gone. … But I fucked your sign up … no problem I know how to paint … He had the look of fear on him… Bro that’s gold leaf I paid $25.000 for that sign. Heyyyyy ooooooo.
Gee buddy why couldn’t you tell me you have sign that cost more than my van up there. I know I should of asked , but I didn’t
I didn’t believe him at first I never herd of gold leaf. After researching sure enough. I just was beside myself. I never herd of gold leaf I thought it was just paint .
Never assume moral of the story . Yupo that one hurt If I didn’t switch to JDW. Well… I don’t even wanna think about that.

Jay ~ Thank you for giving us the opportunity to quote your insurance. We appreciate that. Although I can sense your frustration in the wide range of insurance quotes you are getting from your diligent search of the market place it proves that in NY state that we were not out of line in our pricing. Plus, you really can’t compare pricing just on liability limits given. There are endorsements and exclusions that really impact how your insurance will respond when you need it. The unfortunate thing is you don’t know that until you have a claim situation. We have figured out all the confusing insurance stuff for power washers and window cleaners and offer a plan that includes what’s needed and can educate you on why. (Examples of common questions: Do you know if all the quotes you have gotten have an overspray exclusion? Do you know if any of your quotes include coverage for Care, Custody and Control?) The final decision is ultimately yours but we feel better letting you know what we have to offer. We know we cannot cover everyone depending on what you are cleaning or how high up you go. But for those that fit the parameters of our program set by our company underwriters we can do a really good job giving you peace of mind!
With that being said, insurance is a necessity…not an expense that should be upsetting you . Generally speaking, it’s best to find the coverage that you understand, seems to fit your business best and an agent that is understanding of what you do and what you need. Plus, as your business grows and develops more customers you will have your insurance in order already. I would think that’s what all businessowners want.
Wow, Mike, thanks for sharing that story. I’m guessing the claim process went smoothly? And was there an increase in your premium, or any ‘probationary period’ (not sure if that’s the right word for it)? Like if you make another claim within a year or too, will JDW drop your coverage?
It was hard for me to even write all that it made me wonder what was going on. I totally didn’t even want to think about it , nor did I even call to find out what is going on… Until I wrote that post.
I called my claims rep. She said " The guy denied payment ". He feels he should be getting more than what they offered.
It’s a long story. He told me to wait before I put in a claim he wanted to get estimates. The first estimate he handed me was for 4 thousand an change. He says hold on let me get another one them two months later he faxes me the second estimate 12 thousand an change.
So long story short JDW of course had there guys get estimates , an they came up with 4 thousand also. Offered him the pay out he refused it.
They told me he is going to try to get his insurance company to take them to court or something like that big words can’t give you the words she used.
Yes my insurance went up 300 . Insurance company’s don’t lose ever .
But I’ll say this if I didn’t have JDW I would of been screwed my old insurance would of never covered this I guarantee it.
That’s a good question "as you put a pit in my stomach ". If there was a second claim would I be canceled an how much will rates go
Maybe AmyVollmer could answer that
Btw. I just stopped cleaning his store he Owes me 6 months. Lol. He always paid every 4. He also owes me for the power washing. I don’t blame him for not paying me for the PW. But I’ll tell you this once he settles , an gets his money I’m going back there for all my money. Pw an window Cleanjng. F-him. He can not pay me that’s cool but I will have my day that day. :).
Everyone I told this story to said he should of told me about the sign. I definetly put blame on myself for not asking about it. I assumed. An it did make an ass out of me.
The funny thing about this is the first estimate he got was from the place that built the sign. All of a sudden there not good enough to fix it. I don’t know man he has a kitchen an bath store , and he puts a 25000.00 sign up above his store. Right next to it on the grass is another sign an a big metal pole has to be big $$$ for that sign also. This guy is doin something else other than what he is advertising.

Majestic66, dang man. That’s rough. Sounds like the worst possible type of customer to have something like this happen with. And he totally should have told you about the sign. His overall behavior makes me question whether the sign may have already been damaged or in need of a ‘refresh’, so he could just let you go and powerwash it and let your insurance foot the bill. I usually try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but he really sounds like the type that might pull something like that. The greediness over the claim makes me cringe, too. You know if he’s given the opportunity, he’ll take a check for $12k, and go to the original sign guy and pay him $4k.
Yeah, if you were in the insurance business and had nothing but good responsible paying clients that never make claims you would be made…
Insurance rant to follow :
My Commercial General Liability insurance for 2016 only has a $500 deductible. I was in a hurry to get insurance at the start of the year as it was required by the service agreements of several clients that were included in the sale of the business and I didn’t give enough thought to the deductible. Now that I have looked more thoroughly at what I actually need I am seeking quotes with a $2,500 deductible.
So far all I am getting hit with is a constant barrage of upsells that I neither want nor need, the exception being the agent that won’t return calls or emails.
I sent off an email request to JDW, hope to hear back soon.
Also in New York
4 Million Commercial / Residential (Including Plowing)
2 Million Umbrella
1 Million for Auto (not including my Auto insurance this is a added insurance that covers any damage done by work trucks I.e. plows / bobcat or Blowers)
Way to many things I can do and cant do ( like 40 plus pages of small print LOL) to even get started to list But I can go do every building my target is and then some. I cant go over the sides tho that’s a added cost.
I was paying 1800 jump up to 2800 this year but I added some extras - Wow you would think eh. But I work in Buildings that are owned by the Archdiocese of New York and they demand that. Now I’ve had this type for a few years cause of the Building Maintenance Company I had before selling. I just kept the same policy but added windows to the policy.
Best bet if you are in or near the city ( I see you upstate check every where) and want to save money shop shop and shop around
