I have two residential jobs this weekend, Its a 40% chance of rain. Will rain have an affect on my clean windows. Iam using dawn as my cleaning solution, Iam thinking this will act kinda as a repellent hoping the water should just bead off. Should I invest into maybe a rainx or something simillar.
First time experience in this situation, any advice from ya vetts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Rain water has ZERO affect on glean glass as it is relatively pure. Once you have cleaned the glass rain water will dry spot free. Reschedule if you aren’t too busy or you just don’t want to be out in the rain. Its also a little safer not to be working in the rain.
I’m surprised at some of my customers that don’t mind having their windows cleaned when it’s raining. I always figured they would prefer to wait until it clears up but this year on days that it has rained I give them a call before I head out and they are always waiting for me. But then again there are those customers that prefer to wait.
For those who care to wait: Is it smart to roll in a guarantee program where if the windows do get dirty due to rain we will go back and do it again. You know to make the fill a little more confident in your work. If so how long should the guarantee be for?
Alex, the rain- as Alex Lambrinides said- will not in itself get your windows noticably dirty. If wind carries something onto it, that’s another story. The bigger concern about windows getting affected would be what washes down from above. I give a 5 day rain guarantee and it rarely if ever gets invoked.
I agree with alex. Just keep in mind that it isn’t rain that causes spotting on the glass, it is other contaminants on and around the glass that cause it. If you do decide to work in the rain, make sure the glass and frames are thoroughly cleaned, particularly the top of the frame. The other issue is residue left by the soap. Ideally using something like GG4, which is a low residue soap, will help. If you don’t have that then use your dawn sparingly.
find a good weather website. I use weather.com and wunderground. look at the hourly forecast for that day, these are usually pretty accurate. Chances are 40% for the day means only a few hours sometime during the day and maybe not at all.
3-day guarantee- same here, and only with my high end window cleaning package.
I was cleaning windows yesterday, WFP all the outside first, then went inside to do the interior windows and some other extra services. It rained like cats and dogs not 2 minutes after I went inside. No spots on any windows. Had to come back to the house today to finish up some screen repair (I didn’t have the right color frame necessary yesterday) and the windows still looked perfect. “Rain doesn’t make windows dirty, dirt does!” That’s a quote from my company’s “rain or shine policy”.
Look at what windowboy is saying here cause it’s 100% true. Let’s look at this a differant way. If casino odds changed where as you had a 60% chance of winning, would you not be there every day? We keep jobs on schedule when weather says 30% or 40%. 50% we allow a reschedule. 30% or 40% chance of rain means 70% or 60% chance it won’t rain at all or very little. We all say the same thing about weathermen. It’s the only job in the world where you can be wrong 90% of the time and still keep your job. But the post is old, so did you go do the job? Did it rain?
