Oil Flo vs Goo Gone

What’s the difference between Oil Flo and Goo Gone? I used a sample bottle on a CCU this weekend. Worked well, but didn’t necessarily seem any different than Goo Gone.

I find that Oil flo cleans off with water better. but it is much more expensive

It also depends on what you are trying to remove. I find Oil-Flo works better at removing masonry sealer than Goo Gone does. Since they both work equally well on most things I go w/ the Oil-Flo so I don’t have to carry an extra chemical for those times where I need something w/ more punch.

I’ve done a lot of ccu and I’ve used everything to remove stickers and glass sealant, concert/brick sealers
But I have to say oil flow has proven to ride higher then anything else.just to expand my point, last week i had some tinted windows that were in a indoor pool. the people put up seasonal posters on the tinted windows, attaching them with scotch tape that was double-sided stick. Sufise to say there was nothing i could find to take the residual tape off,and there was a lot of it ! So being a window cleaner a big part of our job is problem solving. so i’m thinking ,thinking thinking and i figure why not try the oil flow! the tint is older getting beat from being inside a with large pool close to the windows and if’n i tested it in a unseen spot then i could see what it does to the tinting.well i did and i didnt see it attacking the tint so i started with one piece of tape and i was able to get it off without damaging the tint. so i started the process on all the tape being sure to watch if im destroying the tint, as i went along everything stayed intact.when i finished and all the tape came off,and the tint looked like the tape was never there and the tint was still in perfect shape !!! WOW !!! now i know it can be used on tinting, but we always want to test a small inconspicuous spot first . who knows it may of been a one time event but now i have it in my knowledge of tricks !

oil flow is easier to rinse and rinse it you have to when you use it. it has also helped break down stucco

Its a dream tool, on one building i would squirt 3oz into my 5gal bucket to help with cleaning that bird abater goo that they would put on the perapet wall, and it would travel down the buildin and get on the glass. it works great and i didnt need to razor it. Lovely stuff. sometimes i’d see a guy taking off graffiti and stickers and i’d stop and give them some and boy they love it !

I would be careful when using it on window film…it’s what I have used to remove it. Your dwell time was short enough not to effect the adhesive, but leave it on long enough and it will.

Well that is my understanding also, i would coat what ever it was that i was removing let it soak in then come back to it and it would come right off (the tougher stuff).other things would wipe right off with the application.but with this tinting i put it on and worked it on the tape and came off pretty quick. i was really aware of what might happen but it shined right up with no marring of the tint at all ,i was totally surprised. Now Dave do you start by put on the oil flow directly to the outter layer and wait for it to soak through ?or do you first pull off the outer layer of film and then use the oil flow to remove the remaining adhesive ? the film i worked was interior stuff not that tough, thick, exterior security film !now all you railbirds always test it first and be sure it won’t attack the film, maybe on old film it won’t be as sweet but this newer stuff is a lot tougher and scratches less easily. always use the old bean though and think through you process !remeber we winder cleaners are problem solver.[ “imformation is key” newmen on sienfeld ] i’m heading up to my red bucket now i need to put the kids in the pool !

I am an oil flow guy myself. Love the stuff. Only thing I absolutely HATE is that the stupid bottle ALWAYS leaks once it has been opened for the first time. That stupid smell! I have to use cellophane to reseal the bottle after its opened.

Tory, put it in a flip top bottle, like you would use with your GG4, no leaks, easy application. I use the same type of bottle for my One Restore, Oil Flo, GG4, S_ Glide…etc…you get nice direct applications with no spray, less waste. How I was taking film off was, wipe it on, all over, full coverage, then use a black plastic garbage bag, cut out to fit the window film, let it set on right over the film/oil flo, dwell for about 20 min, peel off/blade if necessary. Dwell time may vary for different films and age and other factors…etc etc etc…I have one client with some big panes with film on the exterior that wants it off…so far no luck. I was trying in the winter, and was waiting till this summer when the temps went up…I really dont want to do it…its like 20 yr old, cracking, peeling…hit by direct sun late in the day…I dont think the crap is going to come off. The windows are poorly sealed, its an optomotrist office…has to be done off hours etc…the smell goes right into the building…the panes are about 6x8 and 6x10…really old glass…like that green stuff from way back whenever before I was born. Who’s brainiac idea it was to put film on the outside was beyond me…and worse yet to have it PAINTED for HOLIDAYS, which started the initial breakdown of the film, someone tried to blade it…smart, really smart.

Thanks Dave,
I will do that asap. When you mentioned the GG4, a bell went off “oh yeah, that too!”

David,

When I was working in CO we had a job in downtown Boulder old original glass, huge panes (very old building) with tint on the exterior. I believe they had it on for safety purposes (glass was not safety glass) and was on the main road through the town as well as the pedestrian walk area.

they actually put it on to darken the room, behind the glass is/are cabinetry/partial wall, (the reason the film didnt go on the interior) the Dr.'s said they needed the room dark to work on the peoples eyes, testing, dialating etc…They realized their “ooops” after the first holiday paint job experience. But yeah…safety film on big old annealed panes would be another reason.

Ive been using goo gone for a while and have always liked the results

My wife’s been using goo gone for a while (at home) and I hate the smell.

What about goof off? I like that better than goo gone. especially the graffiti remover from goof off. Its thicker and can dwell longer.

I have had a bottle of oil flow for years, never really cared for…until last week when we did a ccu job. It was the only thing that would remove tape residue and construction debris from the metal doors and window frames. Worked great. Not crazy about the smell but it helped us out tremendously. I’m now an oil flow fan!

there were a couple guys at a job site we were at using goof off on some tiled walls, they had grouted the tiles and not cleaned the grout off the colored tiles and it had stayed on the tile for over a month. Goof off was the only thing that would remove it. The guy had on thin rubber gloves and the stuff had eaten holes thru the tips of the gloves, all of his fingertips were showing, so im assuming you need to protect your hands when using goof off.

Goof Off is also pretty stinky.

I’m guessing the holes in his gloves had more to do with the abrasive nature of the grout, rather than the Goof Off. I used it quite a bi until about 5 years ago. I did not use gloves; it basically just dried out my hands a little.
