Older screen removal? how to?

I went and looked at a house today that has older type screen. I was wondering how do I remove these. The way it was it looked as if you had to take some screws out? Does anyone know? I believe the house was probaly build in the 1970’s or so. Sorry I’ve not got a picture. , but the screens are built into the strom windows it looks with the steel sliver frame.

Phillips or slotted screw heads? Access?

I’ve yet to come across a screen that needs screws removed to release them.

However, I’ve yet to come across every type of screen.

Are the screws actually going into the screen frame or just the window frame close to the screen? You could ask the customer. Don’t feel bad about not knowing.

It seems in my experience that whenever I start to work around tricky windows, the secrets behind their operation just reveal themselves as you’re working on them.

You could try unscrewing one screw at a time and testing if the screen is starting to release itself. Then carry on or look for the correct method.

Sorry but without pics I can’t offer any more than this.

Are you talking about a storm window unit? The units are screwed to the outside of the original window frame. If so, you go inside and remove both glass panels and then the screen panel to get access to the original home window.

I believe its a full storm window unit with screen. So more then likely I would have to remove them from the inside of the home? I do notice it looks like the bottom glass can come out very easy but not sure about the upper. I will check this with home owner, good idea, just feel a little wierd asking them something like that I guess. thanks for all the help but I believe it is what mr.squeeze said. Or as I think about it, it looks like they’ve not been cleaned in years and years, could be stuck. what would be a good way to free up a sticky screen.

There are a variety of storm set ups. Some have the upper glass pane set above the screen so you have to remove the screen before the top glass will come out. Of course the lower glass pane has to come out first.
