For those of you who are one-man-shows have you found any health insurance (for yourself and family) that is affordable?
Any suggestions?
Marry a teacher! It worked for me.
LOL!
I am a teacher; burned out and looking to phase out of teaching!
Plus, I’ve been teaching for almost 16 years and am only making $38,000. I can’t make it anymore!
I think you’re in the wrong state. If I told you what my wife made here in Jersey you would probably be pretty angry.
I have health insurance. I pay 185.00 dollars a month(just myself in the plan), the insurance sucks and the deductibles and max out of pockets are high.
You better hope that the President gets healthcare reform, or us small business owners and self employed guys are realllly screwed.
For all you republicans, suck my you know what.
Thats why im not quiting my full time job!!! I have med, dentil, and eye insurance with my company now soo im staying and plus I love what I do!!! Well sometimes i wish i could be my own boss!! Soon real soon!!!
I don’t post much… I am here to learn… but I can’t let this pass…
As a small business owner… I can’t believe you said that…that has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever read on here. You obviously have no idea how the republicans plans are to change the health care problem. A couple points are… 1) Tort reform: The cost of malpractice insurance to the Doctors is passed on to the patients which drives the cost of insurance up. The ambulance chasing lawyers are the cause of this and needs to be stopped. 2) Insurance competition: Allow people to be able to buy insurance from any state. Competition will lower the cost of insurance. I could go on… but this is a “quick reply”… WOW…
For business as a one-man-show I have a disability insurance plan with Blue Cross. I mainly got so if people ask for proof of WSIB I can get Blue Cross to submit a letter stating that I’m covered in case of injury. I pay $45 per month. If you’re looking at something to replace the benefits you got from being a teacher, this won’t cut it.
Simply go online and start shopping for health insurance providers. Also, I know the small business asscociation here helps in gettng healthcare for small bussiness owners. There are healthcare plans for everyone. You just have to figure out how much you are willing to pay for services, deductibles etc. You will not find an affordable plan that will give you the same benefits you have now, thats for sure. Dental is a waste unless you have real dental issues. Most plans cover eye exams and glasses to a certain price point.
Will that make you feel better about your hard earned income being redistributed to people who did not earn it?
If you really want to pay for my healthcare, just send me a check. Don’t wait for Obama to tell you to do it. PM me for my mailing address.
Our hard earned money is already being distributed to people who don’t earn it, they’re called congressmen and senators.
The only thing worse than a republican or a democrat is one of each in the same room.
I’m just busting chops. Please don’t respond to this with the various talking points from either party, I’ve heard them all too many times.
I don’t discuss my political position using talking points. Conservatism has principals. That’s where I come from. Oh, and that thing they call the Constitution. But i know what you mean
Take a look at Health Savings Accounts (HSA). They’re designed for those who are in good health and are willing to have a high deductable.
Read about them here:
All the major health care providers offer them, and most banks offer the Savings Accounts.
We had an HSA for several years, but it got so high, almost $600 for a family of four, with an over $5000 yearly deductible. We had to can it.
It’s just me and my wife, so it’s a lot cheaper for us.
And, since you pay your bills with a Debit card that draws from your HSA account, you have the ability to negotiate the price. For example, if I go in for a regular annual checkup, the price my doctor’s office has set for the visit is based on the assumption that you have insurance. Although I technically do have insurance, I offer to pay them on the spot using the debit card, if they provide me with a lower price. Usually the price is at the discretion of the doctor, and my doctor gladly drops the price significantly since she won’t have to wait months for payment from an insurance provider.
Same thing when I need blood work done. Instead of having the doctor’s office draw the blood and send it out for results, I go to one of the third party providers and present them with the request that my doctor has. This has proved to be much less expensive. In the last couple of years we have been using AnyLabTestNow locations.
Is she pulling in the 1.5 mil retirement package for her $65,000.00 twenty year contributions lol.
Ok I’m not going there lol. But I’m sure she is loving the new gov… Going to be fun fun over the next four years for the education system here. I looked up some saleries in Asbury Park being it’s a class A school system. 1 music teacher, who has 2 years experience and only teaches 1 class of vocals makes $46,000.00. It’s too funny. 70% tax bill to education, man I need to start breaking the law. Seems they are the only ones who can get ahead here. Well not really, teachers can too
Seriously don’t bother. Just go to the hospital and tell them you have no insurance. They have to treat you. I don’t have insurance and broke my hand a few months back, I’m still getting the bill of $1000.00 for the xrays. When they call for the money I tell them “I have the money but I’m scared to pay. With my luck I’ll pay the $1000.00 and Obama will get a bill passed the next day where the government would have paid.” Needless to say they don’t know how to respond and pretty much tell me ok. lol
Hey Ray, don’t be hatin on my “gravy train”, I mean my wife. It’s good work if you can get it. She gets no better than any other state employee, including the governer. I’m sure he won’t be turning down his lifetime healthcare or sweet ass pension.
I know you have served in the military from reading your posts. IMO you shouldn’t have to worry about paying for healthcare for the rest of your life. You’ve earned it. Thanks for serving.
I’m not haten bro. Seriously if you can pull it off then by all means. I pretty sure most here in this state realize nothing is going to change here. But hey keep your eye on the prize cause Chris C is coming down hard. Really hard. He has a serious bug up his butt for the education. Honestly don’t blame him as I said the taxes at 70 to 75% for education in my eyes is discusting. You know the deal, “its for the kids” meanwhile the kids I have interviewed are dumb as rocks. But it’s like my healthcare. I wont get it, never will until some of the laws are changed. But honestly I’m at a point in my life where I just dont care. I see big government doing whatever it wants and that’s how I would like to roll out. I’m at a point where it’s like I dont want to pay for anything anymore. I feel everything is a rip off. Example. My hotel room at the seminar. The pictures and details of my room on the site said it had a flat screen TV. Of course when I got in the room the TV was from 1980 and should have had rabit ears on it. Same thing with the healthcare. I think I’m going the illegal mexican route. Just show up, give a fake name and walk away. I’m one of these guys who did everything the way your supposed to do it. Pay all your bills, get a fix rate mortgage etc. 780 fico score and because of that along with paying my mortgage forever on time. I can’t get my house refianced to a lower rate. Just amazing. It’s like you have to be total loser to get anything from the government. My credit cards are all 30% even though I pay them on time and over the minimum. It’s just crazy. So when I see teachers getting huge pensions, it just freaks me out a little being I’m going to paying for that also. AHHH a little venting. Now Jack and coke lol.
Listen, I love listening to your venting. You always make me laugh. Any thing that has to do with government always sets me off. The only one who really understands me is Jim Beam:cool:
