I was surprised to day walking around the city center to find a Lift truck working on busy streets with no spotter. This is in the middle of a charity run under it. Then to add insult to injury it was working next to over head tram lines. These lines were terminated out three years ago. And next to the boom was a 30ft stage yet again the steel cables were within feet of the lines. This does not sound bad as the lines are out of use and terminated. Last year I did a job just around the corner from it and had the lines. Earthed before the start. Over 15000 volts were earthed out at that time. After all the winds and weather up here. The static build up in those lines will be lethal; they have not been earthed, before this job
Had never considered that dead power lines could pick up that much juice from the environment!
What about phone lines or other lines?
phone lines are safe as they are insulated, its the bare wire. thats used in trams and bus pick ups you have to watch for.
but dont be fooled stay away from all cables. if the insulation is cracked it could be lethal. Always check with the Power suppliers before going near them. they can blanket them out, Earth or disconect for short times. better safe than fried.
Thanks for the info! It’s definitely food for thought, now that I’m entering the the WFP game.

Hmmm…fall off a ladder/roof, or ride the lightning. Something always wants to kill us.
