Postcards versus flyers?

So I’m going to do a major door-to-door marketing blitz soon and I’m working up the designs on my computer. I’m wanting to go with 6x9 postcards on heavy stock with 14 point high-gloss UV coating. My thinking is that I can stick them in between the door and frame, plus if they fall out, they are less likely to fly away in the wind than regular flyers (no pun intended).

Also, to me it seems the heavy paper stock will just feel like “quality”- if you know what I mean. People (well…at least me I guess) generally find big full sheet flyers made out of thin computer paper to come across as cheap, and I usually just crumple it up and toss it. However, my thinking with the heavy postcard is that people will be less likely to crumple it up (not quite as easy I guess) even if they are not interested in the offer. I’m guessing that instead of crumpling it up and tossing it- they may just set it aside somewhere- somewhere that they may see it again later and reconsider my offer.

Does this seem logical or am I wasting time on this idea. What strikes you guys/gals as a better approach to door-to-door? I know about door hangers but I don’t like that size/design for my current creation/offer.

What have been your experiences with flyers or postcards?

You’d be better off using those new door hangers that have a sticky patch on the back like like those yellow sticky pads. That’s what I would use if I ever deliver my own again and I couldn’t put things in the mail box. (we can put things in the mail box here in canada, I’m just saying) Spend a lot more time designing the advert to be effective then worrying about the paper thickness and if you think they’ll treasure it or whatever, imo anyway.

Your putting the cart before the horse. First get the card done. To answer you question, Yes postcars are better the paper IMO.

I agree DeJay. The cards are already done. Its just a matter of- “do I keep them at the postcard size (for the reasons stated above) or do I blow them up for flyer size”. This why I don’t think a door hanger will work as well. I have a design that works much better with postcard/flyer dimensions. Now if only I could get postcards with that sticky strip that Mike mentioned- then I would have the best of both worlds.

Can I see?

You Like eminem huh?.

I’ve never ordered from these guys buy they advertise sticky post cards.
http://www.adeasprinting.com/

Yeah that would be perfect. I just ordered a sample kit from them to check the quality.

Thanks for the link Mike

Unfortunetly I can’t because there is an agreement in place with the original designer.
As far as Eminem- not particularly, but I heard a song of his and that line stood out and stuck in my head. I personally prefer old jazz like Billie Holiday and Benny Goodman- the old stuff.

Gotcha.

Hey guys for those of you thinking of using adeasprinting for their sticky door hangers I would highly recommend them, I have doubled my speed in putting out door hangers using this method and they are really high quality

Wow just checked the pricing on stick it post cards, they are actually over 5x more expensive than the same product, sans sticky, at gotprint.com.

I’ve been putting up my cards with little .75 inch by .25 inch white labels from Staples. 1000 for like $5. They held up through a quicky thunderstorm we had last week too.

That’s good to know. Their website looks decent but not too polished (as far as pricing goes). But I really like their ideas of the band-it and stick-it. They sound great. So it’s good to hear that someone has actual experience with them. I’m hoping to hear back from them on Monday about pricing postcards without mailing them.

I must have missed that Chris, I only saw the price for postcards with them mailing them for you.

I’ll have to go check that out- great idea.

Thanks, they’re also good because you can keep track of how many you’ve hung by the empty sticker sheets @ 30 per sheet

So those labels are sticky on both sides?

I suppose you could use double side tape but that would leave a lot of sticky residue on the house, not sure about double side labels you’re talking about though. I wonder if a glue stick would leave anything.

Nope, just sticky on one side, I just tape the card to the door with the label, one on top, thats all it takes

face plant of course, that’s a good idea actually.

Not sure if im to late to weigh in but i had the same thoughts. I wasnt sure if i was gonna do postcards or door hangers. I decided to use my postcards as door hangers.

Instead of stick stuff or just stuffing them in the door im going to punch a hole where the stamp would normally go and ATTACHE IT DO THE DOOR WITH A RUBBERBAND. Thats my solution and seems simple/cheap enough. Saves money but, not time cause you have to punch holes and put a rubberband through. But you gain the fact that its not gonna fly off of the door handle.

If you carry the cards in a pouch, your hands would be free. You could punch the hole and put the elastic on while walking to the next house.
