Potable (Yellow) vs Non-Potable (Purple) Irrigation Valve

Have a two part question.

1 - can I use the same key for both irrigation connections (yellow cap/purple cap) assuming they are the same diameter? Or is there a different connector depending on the color of the cap?

2 - Is it ok to run non-potable water through my Xero Pure Filter?

If I’m not mistaken, the only difference is the color for warning.
