I need to get out a bulk mail merge (about 500 customers). I went to Office Depot and they wanted about $300.00 for the letters in full color. I checked and Vistaprint doesn’t do it. Does anyone know of a site that will allow me to upload the mail merge document and print them out for a decent price? Thanks in advance.
What size is the media you are printing? (8.5" x 11") (4"x6") etc. and what weight of stock are you looking for?
Hey Damian, I just created an account with amazingmail.com for my reminder postcard mailings. You can export your files as a .csv or .xls .txt if you have that option with your program. It will easily convert into a file that will upload into their system.
It will run you about .80 cents a piece for 500 4x6 postcard though. Once your addresses are in your account you can manage them from there. So you can add or delete cutsomers when needed. Ask for Jill Klinkerman…she’ll will walk you through everything.
This is just a typical letter 8.5 x11. Whatever paperstock is cheapest. However after looking at your post Don it may be cheaper for me to print them in house and just buy the ink cartridges. From there I can take them to Office Depot and they will tri-fold them for 8 bucks.
Look into a laser printer Damian… MUCH cheaper then inkjets.
I have a Brother HL-4040CN color laser printer, works great.
MS office has a mail merge feature that should help if you want to do it in house.
I tried staples online printing service. A lot of the time they are offering specials if you use the service. You basicly upload the doc, put in the amount to be printed and then they call you when done. About 24 hours. I only mailed out 150 customers this year for a test. It cost me about $50 from them. I calculated the cost of doing it myself and it’s pretty close. But what I like about their service compaired to mine is they use a color laser printer and the qaulity is so much better. If I was to go color laser I could find a cheap model for purchase but the issue comes from the ink. Laser printer color ink cost big bucks in most cases. In the end it was just easier and more efficient to use their service.
Heres their cheapest color laser printer

Its about $200. From my experience the ink out of the box will print about 150 pages before you need new ink. The Ink is about $40 per cartridge and you need 4 of them. The new cartridges in my experince need to be replaced after about 500 8.5 x 11 sheets
Cool. That’s the info I was looking for. The mail merge is already done in MS word. I HAD a color laser printer. Way to expensive to replace the cartridges. It cost more than the printer itself. And when one color runs out the whole printer stops working. So I replaced it a B&W HP P2055dn. AWESOME B&W printer by the way. I also have an officejet color all in one that I could use but laser looks so much better.
You pretty much answered my question juggernaut. I was going to buy a cheap color laser for around $200 to do this job but if it won’t get the job done out of the box forget it. I’ll keep looking online or see what staples has to offer. Maybe they have a special running. Thanks for the help guys.
