Does anyone know if you can map directions through QuickBooks or Outlook? I’m looking for a quick way to link these to a map direction for my crews.
Thanks

Try putting a GPS in each truck. They can punch in the address from the work order and it will take them right there.
Putting GPS’s in all the trucks is probably the single best return on investment I’ve ever made. (no more looking up and printing directions anymore)
Yea for sure just get some cheap gps – saves soo much time and paper.
Printing direction, getting lost, possible accident risk fiddling with paper, getting lost, lost productivity etc…
We just got a few new ones from staples for $69 bucks… Tom Toms to… you cant beat that. They will pay for themselves in a month.
I just met with a GPS company this morning named Fleetmatics, anyone using them out there?
I agree with Geof. I have one in each of my 3 vans and it’s a major time saver – and they’re only around 100 bucks now.
Thanks,

I use Microsoft Streets and Trips software (about $40). You can import certain types of data files into it for creating maps. And QuickBooks allows you to export data files. The two seem compatible as far as I can tell, but I’ve never done it. I can send you screen shots of the Streets and Trips help pages if you are interested.
I use Service CEO software and they give you two options for mapping. They integrate with google maps ( internet connection required ) or Microsoft Map Point.
I use the google map intergration in my business and it is awesome. I can view a map of a customers address from multiple places, Customer screens, Schedule boards, etc. I can also print the routes for each crew, and the written directions if I wanted to.
AWESOME stuff !
Outlook will do it - I don’t know if you’d consider this to be “quick”;
In Outlook 2003, when you’re looking at someone’s contact info there’s an icon in the address bar that looks like a yellow street sign.
Clicking that opens to a Bing.com map page with a map and a couple of options for directions.
You can see an aerial view, too.
Looks like you can save locations and maybe route a few homes.
A GPS is nice - but it would be even nicer if there was a way to push address info to the GPS instead of entering it.
Thanks,
Also, if you check TigerDirect.com from time to time they will have refurb units for less than 60 bux.
My QuickBooks Pro 2009 links map and directions directly to the addresses in my customer list. When I upgraded, all maps and directions simply showed up with the addresses.
