QuickBooks

Anyone use Quick books? I do and was surprised that they removed a feature to send invoices in order for you to buy the new version. My old PC was on last leg and could not find the CD. QB says go online and DL it. Loaded it on new PC and the send invoice preferences area missing the use outlook or email info. I am using Pro 2010. They don’t service it anymore so they disabled some functions. They cannot keep up with latest changes so making the older versions obsolete by disabling portions of the program. We don’t use all that online gadgetry they have. Use our email program. No customer support for old versions got it. Don’t need it and won’t ask them because they charge $80 a phone call. The old PC works still because we do not DL the QB updates so the “fix” hasn’t got to to that program. If you want to use QB you have to buy the 2013/14 version for $200 vice a new $250 price. Come on, anyone else think this is a rip off? Its the same as if Microsoft put out a bug to disable your windows if you were not running 8. I’d switch to Wave like I do for my smaller business but too much info and effort put into that QB file. I would like it be my option to upgrade when I want to not “it is 2 years old so you have to buy a new program now or we disable your program.” They say 2010 won’t run on Windows 8 and they did this because of microsoft. I works just fine. What their problem is with all the online services they have wasnt working good because Microsoft wasnt making corrections they wanted so they corrected with newer versions. Literally making the older versions obsolete unless use as stand alone, little to no web capability. To send estimates, invoices etc… in the old version you need to save as a PDF rename and attach to an email.

is the option to save invoices as pdf still available? just do that and attach the pdf to your email. thats what i do.

you can buy last year’s version of quickbooks on amazon for a really big discount. it will be supported until 2014 or 2015 (can’t remember which) so it’s cheaper to stay a year behind and get on that upgrade cycle.

intuit has their users locked into a 3-year upgrade cycle. pretty much no way around it.

quickbooks is sort of like ms windows: it basically sucks, but everybody uses it so they got you by the nads. unlike windows, though, there aren’t really any better alternatives. they all blow mud.

I know. It works great for us just sucks that they cannot leave the old versions just be. Its one thing to make it outdated. If you want the bells and whistles fine but if you don’t want to upgrade because you don’t need all the web connectivity BS they try to get you to use, don’t send out updates to disable the program. If I want to use it that is up to me. No support, who cares, they are worthless anyway. Hours on phone trying to explain to some guy in India the problem just to have him screw it up even more. If I didn’t need to change to a new PC. I would be able to use the old program. I disabled the updates so won’t get the disable patch.
Yes, you are able to save an invoice into a PDF , rename the file and attach to email. Royal PITA! I like the way the newer version looks. If buy now you also get the 14 when it comes out in a month or so.

I’m quite fond of, no, actually VERY IMPRESSED with Quickbooks Online. It is always the most recent version and I can do pretty much everything with it. IMO

Since I started my business in June my book keeping has been reminiscent of a tornado in a trailer park and I keep putting off the big “cleanup”. Went and talked to a tax person this week and last night signed up for the QB online starter package (about $12.00 a month) which is perfect for my company size.

I have a good day of “catch up” work to do but so far I am very impressed with the QB software / layout. This is going to take some if the sting out of invoicing, tracking my taxes and end up saving me time and money.

My dad used to do taxes professionally and in my eyes is a book keeping and financial “wizard” - somehow those genes didn’t get passed on to me (maybe I should get a paternity test…) Out of the stories he tells I have realized that a big reason small businesses sink is a lack of book keeping skills. I get stories all the time how he met small businesses who messed up and ended up with thousands of dollars worth of fines and back taxes etc. Even if they make it - it takes years to recover.

Anyway - yes trying out QB and I am pretty impressed so far, I think all the client management stuff and invoices is going to greatly help out the professional image of my company also.

I use it and love it. I have it loaded on my laptop so it gives me the option to email a PDF with my mobile hotspot, print via a mobile printer, or if reasonably sure there will be no upsell I can take a printed copy with me to the job.

That’s why there’s ALWAYS a work around. If you need quickbooks 2012 lemme know. I got Enterprise Soloutions 12.0. You want it, hit me up by PM and you got it.

And no, I won’t charge you. It’s a legit version, I just have 20 user licenses and am only using 3.

Don’t get me wrong I like the program and will upgrade. Just dont agree with the disabling elements of the program forcing you to buy a new one. 200 to 250 every few years. This time I know after a certain time to stop auto updating so I don’t get the disable codes installed. For my little side business I use Wave Accounting. Simple book keeping easy and free and has an app as well.
