What type of response did you get He Man?
I did a radio ad back in 2007. Invested about $1600 over two week time. Before the ad finished playing for the first time (30 sec add) I had 3 calls. To date, that $1600 investment has brought in over $90,000. One time cleanings, monthly customers, quarterly customers, and annual cleanings. That doesn’t even take into consideration word of mouth referrals from them and yard sign calls. I’d do it again if I could keep up with the new work.
Sounds like it worked good for you. About how many individual jobs did you get from the ad? How long did it take before the new calls stopped? How many of the new customers came in the first three months?
Sounds like a gold mine. Why didn’t you hire employees and continue with the ad?
So why aren’t you continuing to do the radio ads and build up your business with that great of response. What offer were you giving the customers 75% discount, $90,000 from 2 weeks radio ad had to of been a great discount
I didn’t offer any discount. Just mentioned a little about my company and services.
Total number of jobs? Not sure. Probably 30+ directly from the ad. Then neighbors and friends trickled in that never heard the ad. Most of which I still service. That is where the $90,000 comes in. I didn’t receive $90,000 in the two weeks. Repetitive business. I wish I would have kept track better.
Larry, at the time of the radio ad, I was new and was focusing on more of a one man show. I had no interest in hiring. If I did it all over again, I would have hired prior to the ad, and continued it. It is a lot of money, for such a short run, though.
I’ve been dying to do radio ads. It would be pretty much free except for the airtime because I am also an audio engineer with a studio.
The problem that I run into is that the New Jersey radio stations are very far south of me (near Philly and the Shore), and every other radio station is in NYC (where I don’t work). I can see myself getting swamped with phone calls from out of area.
sub it out
Aint nobody got time for that.
We did an ad last year, ran for several weeks. Rather lackluster response. The only real biz we got from it was the station itself, and the Operations Manager/Morning Guy. It was cool to hear people say that they heard us on the radio, but I’m not sure whether it would be worth it if not for the trade agreement we had. I think that maybe a more tailored ad could get a better response, though. The DJ kinda put ours together rather quickly, recorded it in about 10 minutes or so. You can find the original ad on our site, its one of our oldest blog posts.
More often than not if a customer has a radio on when we arrive at the house they are listening to NPR.

I’ve noticed that too
This is really a great idea. Advertising business over electronic media is really great but I think this is little bit expensive also. Why don’t you submit your business into local business sites like Yelp, Manta, hotfrog, Mojopages, Yellowpages and more…
I am sure most are already doing all that yelp web stuff.
Radio is just another added twist
I have a deal working with a radio station that won’t cost me me crazy money.
Hope it works out

This year we are doing radio to get our new brand out. We are doing a 3 month deal that will allow me 2 different 30 second commercials. We will also be giving away free stuff and services during special events the radio station will be sponsoring. It’s costing us almost $7000 but I think it will pay off with the amount of time we get.
That sounds huge but I guess it’s similar to what I’ll end up paying this years with everything added up. For me that would be a huge amount for a single ad campaign. I sure hope it pays off. The big window cleaning company in my area does quite a bit of radio. I have no idea how it works for him but he has 20 plus trucks out there. I’m a tiny minnow in his huge pond (for now).
Hi,
Radio advertising is a great way to promote services. Its a good idea to make your services known to your customers or clients
