A local competitor is advertising that he adds Rain-X to his soap for an additional fee to the customer. This sounds a little bit out there…
Absolute scam.
its actually a pretty large company in my area… they mop up on angieslist big time… When I saw the Rain-X add on service I took a double take
Enron was a big company too but they scammed people.
I have come across this a few times and it’s easy to poke holes through the logic.
Maybe they use this
For the first two years I add this to my solution. When I would explain it; inevitably I would say it’s like rain-x. And then they would be like oh…ok great.
In my experience it made it easier for later cleanings, even up to a year later. But, with it getting more expensive and adding WFP cleaning; I stopped using it.
No, it says on their website they will add Rain-X to their water for an additional charge lol
Haha…wow. How much did they charge? Maybe I’ll go back to adding a protectant to my solution!
I dont know their pricing… the do some pretty crazy angieslist deals… 30 exterior windows for $99.99
how does adding rain x and then just squeegeeing it off do anything? for rain x to work, it needs to be applied and left on. ughhh some of these hacks out there…
I have customers ask me about this too because other companies say stuff like that. I tell them that a few years ago I did a test on my own windows with a couple different products, and they made no difference. I think people figure it’s a scam, so when you tell them it’s a scam they believe you.
I’ve found that when someone puts some kind of repellent on glass, that glass is harder to clean with a squeegee.
or maybe they are idiots…lol
I know a few guys that work for a company that says this. They don’t even add it to the water. They just tell the customers that its in there.
Rain X and Invisible Shield are the same exact formula. The carrier fluid for the polymer in each is isopropyl alcohol. You can’t mix this with water. It will do nothing. However. It is possible to cut either product with a 90% isopropyl alcohol from the drug store and get a diminished effect. These products are based on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). There are other products that are based on silanes instead of siloxanes. Some of these ARE water based. And can be put in your bucket. I know one that will bead water instantly on glass when applied in the pouring rain. Would make an incredible video for a web site. Kill the crap, show the real thing.
Henry which product would this be.
It is not a product. Rather a chemical. Although it could be used to create a product. But trust me it does exist. I have used it. And it does just what I say. There is no product like it in our industry. The downside to it is it is primarily a rain repellent with a limited lifetime of maybe one to two months. The upside is it requires no extra time to apply. Just clean as you would. So any extra money you charged would be profit less the cost of the chem. A bucket of treated cleaning solution would be around five bux.

Here is my tool list from a scam artist in fort worth. Process goes like this. Pour entire contents of rain x in a spray bottle. do not add water or dish solution. face window, and with a bench brush, dust off window. spray rain x liberally. with mop, rub into glass. walk away and prepare next window. come back to original window and apply more rain x. squeegee window. perfect results. All crap with his methods. so many arguments, pictures, customer complaints. At the end I put my foot down and refused to clean this way/ I RECIVED NO CHECK AS FORM OF LAST PAYMENT DUE.WHITE HILL CLEANING TOOL LIST

So I was talking to one of the guys that does this Rain-x nonsense and he says he charges $90 for the Rain-X treatment!! So crazy
Even if it worked isn’t the goal for the windows to be dirty again sooner than later?
