Ive came across with glass that used to be tinted that was removed from the owner. but the glass still had alot of glue residue, in fact he had it that way for over a year now. When i went to clean it, the residue wouldn’t come off. Ive used the scraper, ive cleaned the glass 3 times and i still see it there…
Any advice on how to remove it??? should i use a stronger chemical?? if so what would you recommend??
someone once told me to use Nail polish remover to clean out the residue…
Goo Gone should do the trick may have to let it set on there for a while. Just make sure you get it all off and reclean the glass a couple of times with your solution. I’ve used this to remove the glue from tape lots of times with a light scraping.
There are several types of adhesive remover (Goo Gone, Oil Flo from Titan Labs, etc). I’d try a couple and a scraper. Oh yeah, don’t forget the waiver!
Nail polish remover is acetone and/or methanol - it should do the trick if that’s what you have. Even furniture polish contains this but at a lower percentage. Let the chemical work, then attack it with a scraper whatever you choose.
Magic Eraser can also be effective. I’m worried about the length of time that the glue was on the window . I hope it didn’t chemically react with the glass.
Removing glue from glass is not difficult. Using common items found in almost every home, you can easily remove glue from any glass surface. There are just a few steps to follow. Glue can be safely removed from even the most delicate glassware, china and crystal.
The Oil Method
Saturate the glue with olive oil. Let it sit for a minute or two. Rub glue off with a lint-free cloth. Clean with a glass cleaner. This method is safe for all glassware and mirrors.
Soap-and-Water Method
Soaking glassware in hot, soapy water will remove water-soluble glue. Fill a sink with hot water and add dish soap. Let the glass soak for 1 hour. Rinse and dry.
Rubbing Alcohol Method
Pour rubbing alcohol onto a lint-free cloth. Saturate the glue with the alcohol. Let stand for 2 to 3 seconds and rub off the glue.
Goo Gone works well for glue removal. I honestly havent tried it on glass but I have used to to remove stickers from my guitars and it doesnt ruin the finish so I wouldnt think it would hurt glass either. Put some on a rag and use it on a small area of the glass and see how it works before you smear it around on the whole window.
