Will do, keep this thread posted and let us know how the new clamps work for you
I will as soon as I get them. by the way is yours the mini or the pro?
Mini with the XT
ok, i’m going to come correct on this topic.
i have a 31’ “3-star” carbon fiber pole that i bought from J. Racensuck two years ago. it’s not a great pole. it cost me about $700. i have never had a single issue with the clamps. they are field-serviceable, easily operated and simple to use on the job. the clamps are always tight, i never have spinning issues and if i need to adjust tension (rare, like three times maybe in 2.5 seasons of work) it just takes an allen key to do it. i’ve looked closely at the design, and i just dont get how it could be difficult to master for other manufacturers.
also, me and my guys have never had a serious pinching problem with this pole- no nasty blood blisters whatsoever.
i’m all for innovation and progress, but clamps seem to be pretty simple. so why make such a big deal about these things when a perfectly fine version already exists??
I just received my rhino clamps yesterday and installed them same day. Here are some pictures.

Used my mini for the first real paying job and my take on these Rhino clamps are not good. I broke 2 of the nipples where the pin was held in place. I removed the pins when Perry said I should.
Another thing that’s bothering me is the pole is loose so I tighten the clamp just a bit, then I can’t extend it. Hmm.
Really?
So the rhino clams are bad too?
Humm, I don’t really understand the problem. I don’t have a reach-it.
Does the pole spin when it’s extended? What problem is the Rhino clamp supposed to fix?
What I’m finding so far with Reach-it’s new Rhino clamps is that they don’t work too smoothly right out of the box. You gotta sort of set the pole up before taking it for a test run. Then after that it’s just minor tweaks while at work. I’m going to do a review/instructional video on the rhino clamps next week to help those who may find them a bit fiddly at first.
I was going to retrofit the Rhino clamps I received on my Reach-iT Pro this weekend, but I gotta admit that I find the installation instruction that came with it to be very poorly written. It was not clear about many things, especially on the pin lock. There should have been an instruction video on the Rhino clamp web site already to help make things more clear.
The instruction said to go on the web site for info on how to drill hole for the pin lock. The web site said you can “optionally” drill a 2mm hole in your top 3 tube sections. Well, only the top 2 clamps have the pin, so why drill holes in top 3 tubes? And why is it optional? If there’s no hole for the pin, you can’t snap the clamp with the pin lock in completely. And what if you only want to partially extend the pole? Wouldn’t the pin lock get in the way?
Like I said, totally confusing and very poor instruction.
So maybe I’ll wait for Mark’s video before I attempt to install mine on the Reach-iT. There shouldn’t even have to be a third-party video. They should have had their own instructional video on the Rhino-clamps website already.
At this stage of the game it isn’t recommended to use the pin lock. As per Perry’s instruction, pull the pins out for the meantime while they finalize a better/stronger solution.
the pin lock was added as a second line of anti-spin.
OK, thanks for the clarification, Mark. While the instruction says the pin lock use is optional, it never says that you can pull the pins out like you did. I never saw anywhere in the instruction that talks about pulling the pins out or that it isn’t recommended to use the pin lock. That’s the stuff that they need to do a better job of clarifying in their installation instruction.
There’s a lot more detailed dialogue on the Facebook forums. It would be nice if it were all repeated here as well.
i want to buy them simply because the name is awesome
