Robin Bird Question

A lady I was doing a window cleaning estimate for asked me this question… and I’m not sure of the answer, any help much appreciated.

She has a robin bird that every year attacks her windows. She put a rubber snake on the deck last year and it left those alone but moved to the windows in the walkout basement. He’s obviously messing up/destroying her windows and she can’t get rid of him so is there something she can do to make him stop…yes I know, kill him, but outside of that?

Thanks guys and girls.

Only idea that comes to mind is getting some of them strips of metal spikes that they make to keep birds from perching on places and put a strip on the outside window sill and maybe this bird will get a little to low on the window and get a good poke and learn to stop.Again just a idea, lets see what others come up with.

Perhaps more rubber snakes? If it worked once-- why not twice?

Some buildings use those plastic/decoy owls for Pigeons, but I’m not sure about Robins…

I have a customer who had me put up these decorative cling-ons on the outside of window. Theyre made to keep birds away, they are cut to whatever length you need and about 8-10" wide. They look nice too. i dont know what they are called tho. Ive also had customers leave bars of soap on ledges.

Steps to stop Cardinals, Robins pecking, crashing into windows

Googled this a couple of years ago and read a number of theorys why they do it any many potential solutions to stop it.

Some of them are odd/ugly looking

Hey thanks guys!

On NPRs birdtalk this morning they were talking about why robins do this. They think their relflections another bird and attack it to protect their mating grounds. If you cover or put reflective material on the problem window they usually will find another. One of my customers last week had this problem and when she was finally able to deter the robin from the window it started using her cars side mirrors.

Just put a picture of me in the window-- that’ll scare them away for good.

I looked into selling UV decals to customers a few years ago. I have customers who put decals on the glass, but they are very visible and ugly. One of my customers found UV decals a couple years ago and I was impressed. They are almost invisible when you look through the glass. check it out! There also is good info about the problem.
