Do any you all use any type of software based route planning? Let’s say we are going to send out one crew to service 15 residential accounts within a 13 mile radius. How would you map it to get the most efficient route? We currently use Bing Maps.
good question.
for years I wished I had something like this. I used to just pick my farthest place and work my way back toward the shop.
that way I wasn’t so far away at the end of the day and didn’t feel rushed to get done.
I spent some time researching this site. Easy to use and free.
You actually can have 15 resi. jobs in one day with one crew?
Dan, A crew of three can do up to 20 res jobs providing we are running a tight route. The crew does exterior glass only. For interiors we have a seperate crew of 2 that will do those and the screen cleaning. Alot of times we will have 5 people on one job. Our average exterior job per day is 13 accounts.
So these are town house types George? I’m used to doing 3 or 4 houses with a crew of 2 or 3, but our jobs can be 30 or more miles apart often enough. Except we usually do in and out and the homes are probably larger. I can see how you could make some pretty good money when everything is that close together and maximize it even more by strictly planning your route.
I try to plan my extensive routing wisely and even shuffle jobs as the day fills out if possible. But sometimes the customer has no flexibility and I just accept a bit less profit for the day.
We do a mix of large and small homes Dan and yes townhomes are in that mix. On days when we have all large homes we may only get 8 or 9 done. Our routes are tight. Normally 15 mile radius if planned right. Some days the guys have maybe 5 minutes travel between jobs on average. Some days that gets tossed out the window as well due to scheduling conflicts. Running a tight route is imprtant to us. If we are over traveling just 5 miles a day you can see how that can add up to lost time and unnecessary mileage. Keep in mind also that our crew is doing exterior only.
3/5/7/13 jobs per day is relevant. For me scheduling depends on the $ of the job. Although 15 $100 jobs with 3 guys for the day does look impressive. When I do go out, 3 of us average $1500 for the day but usually between 5 and 8 jobs / easy 10 to 12 hour day…
I do like the idea of a tight schedule, although I’m yet to master it
Question for Noblegeorge - How much $ per day does 13 jobs bring in?
I run my routes in a circle from the shop to the shop. I have a copy of Microsoft Streets and trips on my computer and I can call up the addresses from access and “pin” them. I can look at the locations and then circle the route and print out the addresses in order to be entered into the GPS. I can save addresses and trips in files to call up later
On an average 8 hour day what should a 2 man crew be able to generate in revenue? Jobs ‘fairly’ close together.
Way too many variables to answer that…How much wood can a woodchuck chuck?
For us it is a minimum of $300.00 to break even
I disagree with too many variables. Nothing personal and just my view.
If the jobs are close together - 2 man crew - 8 hour day - Based on my client base -
Minimum scheduled day would be $1000 - Depending on which jobs (some bid higher) up to $1400
