So I’m poling some second story inside windows and someone says to me “Wow, you make that look easy!”. I smile and start to say whatever, and I slip and trip and twist my ankle while back floping into the adjacent swimming pool.
I’ve learned two things from this: Distractions can come from anywhere, and always wear a life jacket when poling.
Glad you’re ok.

An inside swimming pool?? Glad you didn’t drown!
Yes, indoor, and three feet of water. Nevertheless, the splash was impressive. The real point being, stay focused.

Wow bro God was smiling at you that day.
My fear right now is bees, they are everywhere this year, and I’m prone to freakouts.
Man, i hope you’ll get better quick
You got very lucky. I crashed from 6 ft last week, removing stitches from my leg on Friday
That’s why window washing is one of the most dangerous jobs out there
Glad your ok.
Scooky,
Whoa dude …20’…hit your head… your so lucky you not dead or a veggie or even a quad or para !!! Glad to hear none of these happen, but breaking your back is also serious stuff like I said glad your not a paraplegic…
I broke my back also when I was 19 in a drunken car accident, C-7 compressed it 20%, I was drunk , I was the driver ! Get well soon, glad worse things didn’t happen.

Amen Dale…Glad you didn’t hit your head on the way down and then drown when you landed in the water ! KNOCK ON WOOD…

Yesterday I was not so lucky, I fell off the top of a 20 footer onto a teak deck, smashed my head pretty good and fractured L1 vertebrae. Not fun . Doc says I’ll be ok in about 6 weeks maybe.
Wow, scary Steve. Are you going to Chiropractic or Physical Therapy? Neck injuries are the scariest because it is so hard to keep the area immobile while you are healing. Hope you are out of pain and in ok spirits as you recover.
Yes and talk about distractions, I’m hitting the water and thinking to myself, “If that honey of a lifeguard needs to administer CPR this will be worth it.”. I stand up and turn around, still holding the pole and there is the senior citizen ladies water aerobic class laughing.
What would be interesting is to hear from any high riser who has had a territory dispute with a falcon. Terminal velocity is just warming up for them.
Wow, sorry I must have missed your posting this. Sorry to hear about the accident. Mend up quick Bro!
Thanks, I read your post and said to myself " you also should be more careful on smaller ladders" then this happened!?
Hey Dange thanks, it was all my fault, was doing ladderrobics lost my balance and fell. I’m thinking helmet and life jacket lol.
Mark did the bird actually hit you?
No, just swooped a couple of times.
I was doing highrise work in Southbend, Indiana last summer. I was on a 12 story building that use to have an actual shelter for falcons. Apparently they are endangered and this building took pride in protecting them. Well, any contractor who would go on the roof of this building was getting attacked, so they finally decided to move the falcon’s man made nest to a building a couple blocks away onto a different roof top. You could still the falcon and it’s home though and he could see you.
Soon as I got to the roof and I looked around and spotted the falcon and his home, I decided it was no threat and he/she wouldn’t bother me, considering I am several hundred yards away. I though wrong. After I had climbed over and descended to the first window I was to clean, I felt what I had quickly assumed was a large piece of stone hit me in the head(this building was very old and made out of decorative concrete with gargoyles and stuff.) After being in shock for a good 30 seconds I look up and down trying to see what hit me, then I hear the screech from hell coming from my left. Here comes this beast of a falcon, at least 5 feet wide wing to wing, I was terrified. It was soaring towards me at rapid speeds beak first! As soon as it got about 30 feet from me it changed its momentum and stuck its talon out in front of its self. It wanted blood. Keep in mind I am hanging from a rope just dangling there. My only defense is trying to kick it as it swoops back and forth. It came within 2 feet of my at least 10 times, each time I managed to get out of its path.
I was only about 200 feet above the ground but I felt it was to risky to descend to the ground while this flying beast was trying to kill me. After about 5 minutes of evading this birds attacks and screaming like a little girl in effort to scare it away, a couple people inside opened a window and I crawled inside. I don’t think the people quite understood how dangerous the situation was because they thought it was hilarious that I was scared of a bird. However, they didn’t see the scars of the last window cleaner who did this building. He had about 40 something stitches on the back of his neck and back.
Anyways, I never went back to that building again.
Woo Wes thats crazy!
Glad your OK.
