Same Window Cleaning Business Names?

I was browsing different window cleaners for name ideas. I came across alot of same names. Although I have a idea for mine, which is unique for my area. I am merely asking cause I had come across some that were taken and some that were taken 3 times over. lol…
Example:
Pane in the glass (not picking on em, or singling em out for any reason, just an example)

How does everyone feel if your company name is being used in another city/county/state?
Is it a big issue? Do you feel your idea is being fringed upon?
Will it really matter, since your name is in another city/county/state? Since a local company/resident wont hire anyone to do a single job from anyone out of state?
I understand corporate headquarters hiring blah blah etc etc. But lets just talk local.

What are your thoughts guys?

Take my company name and I’ll kill you… just kidding. If someone really cares that much they better be willing to pay a lot to trademark the name. Just name it something horrible that no one else would ever want to name their business and you won’t have to worry about it.

There are many companies even here in WCR with the same or similar names. I originally picked a name and then discovered through the state that there was already a company with the same name. I can’t really see a problem of its in another state. Your customers would most likely never know.

I could see a problem if company with the same name starts to get negative reviews on BBB or Angie’s list or something. Illness your name is trademarked there’s not much you can do. I wouldn’t personally pick a name I knew was used by another company. Just my opinion.

Sorry typo. My iPhone auto corrected. I meant unless not illness in the 2nd paragraph.

Theres another Triple C in Long Island. Couldnt care less now, but if I ever expanded into the area (its only 40 miles away) I would have to handle it.

Phil,

I just hope your iPhone hasn’t caught a cold.

To answer the question, I had one name picked for the company that I pondered over for months. But something just didn’t “do it” for me. The name I eventually chose is one that I personally like as it has a ring of professionalism to it. Now that the name is registered with the state as the name of my company, nobody else can register it in the state.

I do think there is a lot that goes into choosing a company name. (IE: Is it easy to remember, does it tell people what you do, is it the name of your family, is it too cliche’, etc, etc…) For me, I wanted the name (1 word) to make an immediate statement to clients as to how my company sees itself.

I contemplated one word names:

Shine and Clean

Luke i write about last week, i trademarked mine, so i don’t have to worry about it

This is such a tuff thing, trademarking could be around 500 bucks, I will be running an ad on LivingSocail and im not sure if i should or not. Ive own companys before and never worried about it. But now being as im running ad’s online and papers i might do it so no one come up from under me and makes a bad name for me. thoughts?

I don’t care since I already own the straightforward domain name for my business.

I incorporated in WA state, which means if someone else had the name before me or licensed under it in a different city after me, I can legally make them change it. Atleast that’s my understanding…

If it is in the same state they can’t even register the same name with the state. So if they are operating under the same name as yours then that means they didn’t register it and you can go after them.

Not true. Atleast not in my state.

I got an idea for my new company name… All County Window Cleaning… has a nice ring to it… and whenever I Google window cleaners in NJ that name always pops up, so it must work

fify

I have noticed companies usually use:

personal name - first or last (myself included)
Nicknames - Mr window, mr squeegee, etc
word plays - pane in the glass, classy glass
geographic names - city, etc
end result names - squeaky clean, shine, etc
process of window cleaning associated names - soap & water (the one top of mind as I visualize Brennon’s great truck wrap), heights
Descriptive of an element of the company - Men in Kilts

and of course the USP related names

what else is there you have noticed?

You mean they CAN register the same name even if someone else registered it before them?

Idaho too. There are a couple same names in different counties…

How would you categorize mine, Bruce?

geographic descriptive

west coast wc’ers
pacificlear
North county
sea breeze

come to mind

Yes in the same state. No in the same city.
