Sam's 6 Piece Cleaning Set - Thoughts?

I’m a big believer in… you get what you pay for, so I was pretty skeptical when I saw this on the Sam’s website. What caught my eye, was that it came with a 9’ extension pole. For $4.91, this doesn’t seem like a bad deal at all. Obviously I don’t plan on taking this kit and run a window cleaning route, but it has a few interesting items that look like I could use. Anybody ever seen this or purchased one?

No, I’ve never seen it or used it. If you’re going to run a real window cleaning company, buy real window cleaning equipment. That WalMart/Home Depot/Lowes/TrueValue stuff is designed to be used once each spring by a soccer mom and then if it doesn’t break, it is meant to get lost in the garage. You will see some in the corners of your customer’s garages when you go out there to clean those windows. (They will blame the tools for the bad job they did before they called you.)

You will be using your tools every day so get tools designed for professionals. You can search the archives here for lots of opinions about which brands to buy.

The starter kit that WCR sells has everything in that kit and more. It’s all professional grade and will serve you well. As Tony said, use the best tools you can afford. 1st, if you buy good tools the first time, they will last longer and eventually cost less than cheap tools that have to be replaced soon. 2nd, if you want your clients to have confidence in you and take you seriously, you have to show up looking like you are ready to do a professional job.

You’d probably have to dish out the $4.91, and try them out to answer your question.

Lots of junky stuff looks really good in the package, and then busts within 60 seconds or is completely useless after the first 3 windows are cleaned.

Do a $4.91 experiment.

Make a video of it, and then put it on your website to show the “soccer Moms” the difference that professional tools make.

It looks like Home Depot Unger products, but its not Unger.

If you really have to go gangsta on the equip, and cannot wait 2-3 days for your equipment to arrive from WCR, get it from HD. Still consumer crap, but its Unger, which is much better than buying complete no-name. I have no shame, thats what I did. Once I went pro equip i couldnt turn back.

That being said, the pole is too short (get a 12-16 footer if youre doing storefront), and there are accessories you wont need in there.

You know when the last time I dusted a ceiling fan was?

… and besides… as a newbie, the one microfiber included in there is gonna get you through maybe 1/4 of a window

Ya I’ve got $330.00 in my shopping cart right now. I’m going to post my shopping cart in a while to get some input before I complete the order.

Trust me. You are not making a mistake. Even just buying the pole from home depot will cost you more in the end. The tips are glued on. You break it and you’re gonna have to buy another. The poles at wcr have replaceable tips.
