I have been converted to the Scraper Mate, however the other day it broke! Since then I have been putting my scraper in my pocket, what a pain. The black plastic they use for the body just snapped in half. I couldn’t believe it. Now I am debating to buy another or make my own out of a sheet metal.
Has anyone had this happen to them. Would anyone be interested in having one made out of sheet metal. I figure if I make one and it works, why not make a few more. Change the design just a little and we’re in business.
Then all I have to do is send it off to China and move to a third world country, or I guess I could just stay here since we’ll be Third World once this administration is done with us.
So I take it you use one. How are they? Whats the pros and cons? I was thinking about getting one but wasn’t to sure of the design. Does the guard get stuck or hard to get to move at times. (kind of like the 1’ scapers) If anyone else can help out here please do so.
Whats up Dejay, I dont think there is any cons to using the Z-40. The guard has never jammed on me ever. The design is pretty good, the guard moves smoothly from open to close. And it is a real time saver. Especially if your cap keeps coming off, like it did with me. Falls into the bushes and takes forever to find. Ill never use another scraper again, unless I have to stick one on a pole then the Triumph MK3 angled comes into play.
I use the Z-40 but I use the scrapermate to hold my Z-40 for easy access and for secure holding. Nothing like climbing up a ladder in the trees and having branches knocking your stuff down to the ground, then you have to go down the ladder and look for it.
Its not hard to move, the guard does not get stuck, the only problem I had was I had to bend the metal holding part so that my scraper would not fall out, but once I fixed that I never had any problems and have been very happy with it until it broke. I will get another one unless I make my own.
ive the english version of the z-40 , its black in colour but right from the off its been a sticker and needs 2 hands to work it . its called Triumph 2000 , i dont rate it
I have and use the scraper mate w/ my MK3 angled. That’s the key. The MK3’s have a wider handle and as Mark said in his video they put stress on the body of the scraper mate. The angled one doesn’t put the stress on it because it holds the handle at a narrower point.
I did break one last winter but it was because I slipped and fell on it.:o
Z40/Triumph 2000 - It’s one of my favourite tools. They are pretty hard to get in the UK now. Every now & then (1 year) you need to take them apart & clean them. This last time I just stuck it in the washing machine without the blade in the open position & it did the job (but I might stick it in a sock next time!).
