hi guys just want to ask if anyones been contracted or has been removing scratches from
bus windows, i just start to take notice almost all buses at our area have windows scratched(graffiti)…i am not into SRS YET!!! but planning to get into it soon…thanks for any feedback!
I would recommend the Glass Renu system. How many windows do you have to repair?
Give me a call, I’d be happy to give you some info on the system.
I do believe most bus and train windows are not really glass or some sort plexiglass to keep them shatterproof. You might want to check with GlassRenu or the specific glass manufacturer before attempting.
Not that I think about it, I’ve spent a good many hours on NJ Transit/PATH/NYC Subway… always noticed this “FRA Glazing” stamp on all the windows. Here’s a good starting point for your research…
Chris is right the Federal Rail Administration (FRA) does have some strict guidelines about glazing performance. There is a mix of glass and plexi from train car to car. That being said, a lot of the mass transit companies don’t like the plexi because it is easier to carve into with a blade (read more graffiti). The Subways in NYC have glass, BART here in SF bay have glass, the bullet trains in Japan and the Japan metro rails have glass, and from what I have seen around the world most mass transit orgs use glass.
The answer to herb’s question is yes, bus and train windows (that are made of glass) can and are on a daily basis restored with GlassRenu. Current projects that are going on are in Las Vegas, Australia and the SF bay that I know about. I know that we have users who also handle commuter ferry glass as well.
The big, open and untouched market (read $100 million a year globally) is that of outdoor furniture for mass transit. Bus shelters, train station fixtures, street advertisements etc. These tend to switch between glass and plexi biased on the price of oil. When oil is cheap, the fixtures have plexi installed, but when oil is high they all switch to glass. To get some perspective on this, in 2007 CBS Outdoor spent $1.7M replacing glass that was broken or tagged in the city of San Francisco alone.
hope this info helps.
thanks guys for the infos, one more thing i’d like to ask in particular to GR’s ANZ, there’s is a suburb in Sydney where one of Glass Renus competition is based (Revesby) and noticed businesses with shopfront windows that are scratched probably more than a quarter of the total shops, questions 1. Does this mean shop owners’ have no faith in the SRS or just unaware of the service?
2. Not enough SRS guys around, (Jason must be too busy?)
3. Other system had tried but failed?
Herb-
Hard to say sitting here in California, however I would most likely say any one of those reasons could be in play. Have you asked any of the store owners? SRS (while having been around for 25+ years) is still a little known service.
hi cody couldn’t dare to ask YET, probably once i got hold of the Contractor System (and the skill), only have 50% of the cost to purchase the system
still saving… lol!
