I may have come up with a much more cost effective soap to use for screen cleaning than the traditional carpet soaps that I started with. So far I am getting amazing results. I will let you all know how it goes…
Is it better than Formula 90? If so I’m in!
1st of all, depending on where you are located, as to how well “Formula90” will work, because what I currently use and have been using works better, It’s all about using the right response for the right soil. Sorry but Formula90 is not it. If you live in dusty and smoggy areas, (which is where you can tell) you will not acheive acceptable results. In certain areas it would not matter if you used “Tide”. In areas that have extreme soiling, its a different ballgame. Fortunately I have that figured out.
Thats cool curious to know the new cost effective alternative? Looks like we need to chit chat the good ol chemicals 101 taught by Lance himself:D
How goes it? Or is it to soon to tell? I can’t wait to hear!
as far as slider screens, are you removing them and cleaning with the regular ones or cleaning in place? thanks - this newbie still learning as much as possible!
I have cleaned slider screens both ways. You’ll find that they don’t always want to come out, or they may not go back in easily at all. I found that most new “cookie cutter” houses settle very poorly and windows may become stiff or screens get really stuck in place.
If you are going to clean the screen in place, just remember not to clean the window first… But I wouldn’t know anything about that :o
I have a pump up sprayer that I mix a batch of Formula 90 in. Spray the slider screen down and brush it then rinse and dry w/ a towel. Like Chris said don’t clean the window first.
If you all like Formula 90, again it does not have the proper ingredients to fully remove all soils found in screens, you would absolutely love Tide with bleach alternative.(This is not what I am working on), and anyone that says don’t use it unless it is “specifically designed for its intended purpose” does not think outside of the box.
OK Lance, enough w/ the teasing. Can you tell us yet what this new cleaner is? Pleeeaassee!
As much as I would like to… I can’t. The last time I did that… someone else ran with my idea, claiming it was his. I never even recieved so much as a thanks. I think for turning someone onto that, I am owed something?
Tony, please try the “tide w/ bleach alternative”… will work better than the 90, trust me…
Any suggestion from you Lance I’d be happy to give a shot. What ratio do you suggest?
What do you consider fair “compensation?”
Well I really havent put a whole lot of thought into it, make me an offer;)
Cool pic by the way
Tony,
I would suggest about a capful to a cap and a half per 4-5 gallons of water. Pure water preferably. Find out from there what dilution is working for you in your area.
One more question Lance - will the Tide give the screens the same shine as the Formula 90?
I think that is where everyone is confused… you are not trying to achieve a shine, you are attempting to remove ALL the soil to expose the screens existing natural shine, screens are “dulled” by soil. It’s all about properly breaking “surface tension”.
I think you can guess which end is “Clean” and no it is not wet.
But Craig says it’s all about the shine.
Great visual Lance, Thanks!
I believe its because of the “Biosolv” which i failed to mention on the AUWC thread.Needless to say…Lance says all screens will shine they dull due to dirt & contaminants. Proper lift & suspension is the key! Of course finding the right chemical & amount is important too!
