Screen repair trailer

I have seem mobile screen repair trailers around town and they all seem to be custom, i cant find anything for sale online…

The most cost effective way i can think of to build one would be to buy a regular 8-10 foot trailer and mount plywood on top, then cover it with carpet. then i could mount a miter saw on top and there would be storage for a ladder, screen frame, and parts/tools under the plywood…

Does anyone have a better idea?

Do you currently do screen repair? Or are you thinking of adding it? I have a screen repair table We built in my garage. We just collect the screens and bring them back to the garage and then schedule time to rescreen them and then take them back. A trailor set up seems like it would be a lot to haul around. Also it would have to be covered if you had power tools mounted on it.

I opted for the table at the office route because it seemed like too much to haul around. plus if you haven’t done rescreening before it can be tricky at first and its nice to have extra time to work on the screens at first in case it takes longer.

I’ve even thought about subbing it out.

There is a couple franchise companies for mobile screen repair. One is Screenmoblie. You can Google them and get a better look at the trailer. But I think it would be easy enough to copy. A flatbed trailer with a large tool box that doubles as a work table when the lid is down. Some racks for rolls of screen. I think it’s a good idea if you do enough repair to justify the expense.

it’s hard to do it all, let the screens guys fix the screens I had a guy who gave me 10% of all jobs i sent him, it was easy money

I carry metal and mesh with me on my trailer. I can build, repair broken legs or rescreen on site. I keep corners and spline on the trailer along with a 6" mini chop saw. I fix quite a few screens every month

Yes screen mobile. The trailer cost a fortune you would be loading more on gas than it’s worth. Re screens can be done on site easily with some practice. Carrying corners and frame is a little complicated with the dirrefent number of frame suppliers all use different size corners usually they r not inter changeable. If they need something besides a re screen frame or corner it’s easier to build a new screen.

Me too, I have all of the things you mentioned, but the main problem is a big enough table to work on…

I can pick up a brand new 5x8 trailer for about $650 and by the time i put a toolbox, carpet work surface, and some other things on it i think i could build a legit screen repair trailer for around $1200
thats not bad at all, but i am thinking i should get a 10’ trailer rather than the 8’

can you post a picture of your trailer

Oh and there’s no way i will sub it out, I only offer 3 services, screen repair being one of them…

Yeah, i figured it would be expensive to buy one that is already made, i will just make my own…

Oh and as far as all the parts go, I am fully stocked with pretty much any part/frame or anything i could need…

there are rare situations though you might need to order some parts, usually for a weird color frame or something…

You don’t need to go the trailer route. Just make sure you always carry screening material, different size spline, tools, knee pads and a canvas sheet and you can work anywhere in any situation. I’ve been at too many screen jobs where I wouldn’t be ale to find parking if I had a trailer. And what do you do when it rains? Reschedule because working on your flatbed in the rain is a no go? Not me. A week last Friday it poured rain from 10AM-6PM and in that time I made $700 in screen work while most of my window cleaning colleagues already called the day a right off.

I bring them them back to my shop and work on them. Why let someone else get the work when I can do it.

I raised my floor in my 20 ft van by 10 inches so I could add an 8 ft pull out table to do screens. I use the space underneath that for screen and other storage. I put closing bins on the two back doors to hold screen corners, springs, pull tabs etc. The screen frame is in three tubes inside the van above the table and in 8 tubes on top oc the van below my ladder rack. I can build screens on site and this keeps my customers happy.

I’d love to see a picture of your truck.

Screen repair can be very lucrative, as you apparently already know, so NOT doing it isn’t a good idea. I found carrying two of these folding 6’ tables is plenty to handle any screen repair I need and it fits in the back of my minivan along with three ladders and RHG 5-stage Pure Water machine and all my WFP’s, buckets, squeegees, etc.

Costco - 6’ Center-fold Multipurpose Table

Same here, Shawn. They’re very convenient and easy to store.

I got the idea from Troy Liposec.

I just found this at Canadian Tire Store on sale for $40. Guess I’m gonna have to make a trip tomorrow.

Mark, i just Googled that store and it looks like a tire store that somehow expanded into selling kitchen & household supplies

weird huh?

Most success stories started small then blossomed. Canadian Tire started in 1922 as a tire store , auto supply. Now they have almost 500 stores across Canada, most of them being Super Centres. They are pretty much a full fledge department store including hardware, sporting goods, appliances, electronics, gardening center, auto repair and parts. They have a weekly flier and if you are patient, you will get some great deals on tools or just about anything else you need for home or service business. They even have their own iPhone/iPad app where you can view their current flier, store locator and stock check, read customer reviews and more. Uhh, in case you couldn’t tell, I’m a fan.
