With the tabs of screens on the outside, is there a way to remove a screen from the inside? This may be simple, but I think it would be useful to be able to take the screens out from the inside that were put on from the outside…
I’ve worked on houses that the previous person who had removed them put them on backwards. Apparently the homeowner took them off once by cutting a little rip in the screen to remove them outside with tabs inside. May not be feasible to do this on a customers house but technically it would work in reverse too.
All of our techs have what we call a “screen tool” that is really just a putty scraper. They are flexible, flat and thin. You can get right into the crack and pop the screen out. I always can get screens out now. Grab it at Home Depot for like 2 dollars

whoo! awesome! thanks!
Yes sir! Make sure you find out which side the springs are on (opposite the side with the tabs) so you can apply pressure in that direction and then you will be able to slip the tool in (on the side opposite the springs) and pop it out.
Paint can opener or a flat head screwdriver work alright too. Don’t go blabbing our trade secrets everywhere now…
Yup, without my paint can opener, I’d be totally lost in a house. I use it to remove/replace screens, unlatch tabs from old windows that would rip a fingernail off, lift stuck windows, remove storm windows, unlatch/unstick pella designer windows (and pull screens, grids, etc), and about 100 other uses. And it fits in my shirt pocket.
Just don’t use the free ones from home depot or lowes the angle is wrong, the best angled ones are like 99 cents at walmart. I usually buy them 10 at a time just to make sure I always have extras.
Paint can opener will save you time and make screen removal a lot simpler.
