Selling excess business leads

I’m in a lucky position to be booked out for 3 months in advance. Instead of telling people sorry, I have started selling the leads to a local window cleaner who needs the business. I am charging him $25/lead. Do you think this is too much or not enough? Has anyone here done the same? Just wondering.

You are refering/selling leads and not jobs? If he/she is a very good cleaner, why not sub the job? Win-win for both of you.

Why not up your prices…

then sell the lead if you get rejected from your higher price.

I personally wouldn’t turn away business without knowing what the customer wants or is prepared to pay first.

Agreed. Subbing the job make more sense unless you absolutely can’t spare the time to get it sorted out.

I don’t want to sub it out as then I have to meet the person, quote the job and if anything goes wrong, sort of feel obliged to fix it up for my reputation sake. I really don’t want to deal with other trades. They always seem to let me down. This way, the phone rings, I write a 10sec text and bang $25 more.

My prices are the highest around. And regularly raise my prices every 2 years by 10%. I can just market my business a bit more efficiently setting me apart from most others.

Excellent story. It just goes to show you don’t have to lower your prices to be successful.

Thanks mate. If I was to sub the work out to another company, what is the normal split.

If it’s just the lead , then it’s probably too much . But if he books it , and does the job . Then I think it’s a good deal .

But if I where you a would leave some gaps in the schedule open . Maybe a day a week , so you can cherry pick the sweet jobs .

I don’t have the luxury to leave any gaps. All my jobs booked now are priced very well and have been booked for months. Most of my clients are every 3 months though out the year.
Mabye Chad who has a waiting list can add a few suggestions. Cheers

Congratulations on being booked out 3 months in advance. That is a great position to be in. I have never considered selling my leads to another window cleaner. I have always put potential clients on my waiting list.

True. Some will wait that long as they are referrals from other great clients, but if the average Joe calls and needs them cleaned in the best 3 weeks for example, instead of just saying ‘sorry mate I am booked solid’ I say ‘sorry I couldn’t help this time, but there is someone who I can recommend. Did you want me to get him to call you in the next 10-15 min?’ They seem to love that level of service from me. And hopefully, next time if things don’t work out with the cleaner I recommended they will call again. I then txt the info to the cleaner and then invoice him at the end of the week for the leads.

Glad that is working out for you. That is a great idea. Some people will wait until they can get on your schedule, then some will want you to clean their windows that week. Keep up the great work!
