Hey all… I have a 1 cubic tank with mixed bed, my brother noticed some small beads or dots on the windows when doing a commercial job. was due for a resin change so I cleaned everything out and put in new resin. Did a job Friday and noticed the same thing. When the windows are wet the dots are very noticeable, but after they dry they are almost invisible, but I can see them… Homeowner may not, but that is not the way I like to do windows.
Are the cation and anion resin granules the same size? because they are not the large resin beads coming through, they appear to be much smaller…
Does anyone know what they are and i’m assuming maybe one of the filters may be wearing out as the tank is about 3 years old and I haven’t replaced any filters etc… just cleaned them out…
Yea, my thought too… however I still want to know in regards to the size difference in the the resin, because the large beads are not what is on the windows after rinsing… that’s what has me wondering.
What type tank? Cube? Check you basket filter. Sometimes, if old the chlorine and other minerals will deteriorate the plastic. If you can could you put a simple filter like an inline on the out line? Could be if you were working on it there may be resin beads loose and got into manifold, basket or riser tube. If all looks well see if adding a simple filter like panty hose to outer basket. This might help you determine if the basket is damaged. Some resin you buy may have damaged beads and the shells of those beads may be small enough to pass thru a basket type filter. I have a mesh screen on my older tank. If your out is 3/4" you can try a screen gasket like on the garden hose and see if you catch debris there. Is your resin a quality type or regen. Regen has more chances of containing damaged beads.
I mentioned panty hose because I have a resin bag with my tiny system and when hand refill I re-sew and use a nylon sock for extra protection. Got a cube 1/2 filled with Cation resin. Basket seemed to work. Few beads escaped. Added a nylon, fine type over basket and secured with zip tie. No more beads but let me know I might want to replace filter basket with a newer finer one.
Oh when you get a chance, flush your line, jets, brush. Run DI into container and see if there is debris coming out in your water.
'm running late on this one, but for posterity’s sake … there is a basket shaped filter at the base of the riser, and usually there is a mesh or an upside-down basket shaped filter at the top of the riser.
If either of these dislodge, or fail ( I have seen basket filters distort and open if the riser is too long and it pushes the basket filter against the base of the tank and ‘spreads’ the fins) then you can see resin beads in your flow.
This is particularly likely if you have knocked over the tank …
If all the mesh are in place, there is no way for the resin beads to get into the flow line to the pole.
I would think that your jets would clog if you were loosing DI beads. The answer is the beads are different sizes and they do get smaller as the regen beads are used more and more. I have beads get into my system at times after a resin change. In my case it is not the filter, just sloppy, quick resin change. I would try running all your new resin changed tanks without any pole hoses connected for 1 minute before use.
