My excuse is that I don’t want to do it and you can’t make me!
Re-screening is easy money I think, about 35 to 50 bucks almost every other job. My customers usually let me know how many windows need to be re-done, so I just buy as I go and carry one extra, just in case.
lol by far the best “excuse” i’ve heard. How bout we call that one a reason!
I agree with ABM though. Im running a re-screening about every other cleaning. For someone like me that doesn’t have a lot of accounts it’s a viable option but, you folks with established routes and stuff i could see how it would mess up the rotation.
I just like the fact that i can do the work on my time.
I believe it also builds reporte with the customer. It sucks to do a job on the windows then put some shabby @$$ screens back on.:mad:
I’ve made Just over $600 (after material expenses) so far this week and tomorrow I’ve got 3 more re-screens and 1 custom to do in the morning. Trust me, there’s good money to be made with screens. My best job this week netted me $96/hr and my lowest job around $75/hr.
For a standard double hung screen its about $18-24 and for a half single hung screen it’s around $10-16. That is for a entirely new frame and screen. If the frame is still in decent shape we will just re-screen for a lot less.
I made screens when my buisness was small and had time for it, It made everything work out financially in the beginning. but when i became busy cleaning glass i just stopped, because it’s a chore and its hard to learn. Just try training a guy on it, It’s constant baby sitting
You get a fair piece, and you don’t even have to be there!
Love it!
Perhaps it’s the wrong guy or the wrong training…
Honestly I hate doing it. I don’t like working with other companys that I can’t control their work. If the guy has a bad day or something it will reflect on me. I do it when the customer tends to beg for it. Heck it’s only like $30 most of the time and not really worth the sleepless nights I have from using another company. But I make it clear to the customer that the guy and I are in no way connected other then he is reliable and I have not heard complaints from my other customers. I’m happy when the customers ask and I tell them no I dont do it and they shut up. Cause when they ask if I know anyone I can’t keep my mouth shut and I tell them yes cause I feel bad for them. GRRRR lol.
Yeah, I can understand that…
It’s tough to hand your customers to a vendor, but I’m sure he tries to do right by you, since you referred him.
What on gods green earth is going on in NM where you can only charge 10$ for an entirely new frame, screen setup? That’s crazy cheap.
I agree! That is not enough to build a new screen, the metal, mesh and spline cost that much. If I have to replace metal on a frame and remesh it, that takes 15 to 20 minutes.
We get the hook up. Our company has used this shop for over 20 years. We also refer clients back and forth. They normally get the better end of the deal but I get cheap screens, parts, glass.
as long as i’m making more than 1$ a minute i’m happy with doing screens. Turns out though im making about 4 then, whatever it takes to drive em’ back out. Best of all though the customers feel like you are the GO TO GUY for them. It’s a part of my branding
My names
Joe “the window cleaner” Kasowski
Just got a random call “Hey you got anything goin on tomorrow? Because were sick of our screens” my answer “No problem Dave 20$ flat fee for each screen”
And just like that i got myself a full day of work. He’s got tons of screens too and he wants em all done… super stoked.
I had to revisit this… I’ve already picked up a business card for another mobile screen repair company lol. I’m eating my own words i know, which i’m more than happy to do. Since I FINALLY got my pressure washer i’ve managed to use it as an add-on for most jobs. Schedule is pretty stacked so it’s tough to find motivation to deliver screens after I finish them. It was good money at the time but when your burning through window jobs it’s tough to switch gears. I spend my free time doing all back end stuff from the days business… when do window cleaners get a break?
Yo Bubba…
This thread show that your making headway and advancing in you business keep thing going and you’ll someday get a day off LoL…Really though you sound like your getting established and I’m happy for you my friend ! Take care !
Dange
Thanks Dange. Yeah things have panned out very well for me. I couldn’t ask for more at this point. This means I will have a successful transition from military life to civilian life (without the anxiety of not knowing what’s next). Im stoked

My days are so busy that if when we were doing this and bringing them back next day it was impeding my next days jobs, or cutting out time I would be doing estimates. If I tell them next day that also means I have no time to myself or with family after work and office time. I spenty many nights up til ten working on screens in the garage. The cost of fuel to make a return trip for very little money. Of course we also service a 2 county area with up to a 2 hour drive in either direction in rush hour traffic(which is half of the day around here).
any chance you could show us a picture of your screening jig?
