Soap for screens?

I love my Aztec screen washer, but sometimes it needs a little help. I’ve tried using a pump sprayer to pretreat the screens with some diluted ecover, which seems to help a bit. But the soap takes forever to rinse out, and they still come out a bit streaky at times.

What soap have you all been using for screens?

I use Dawn with window scrubber. Really dirty ones I use a hand held scrubbing brush and solution. The worst are the ones painters have tried to clean up their paint mishaps with thinner or acetone. Just can’t do much to make those look better except replace the screen. Perhaps some find something else works better, but I have had good luck this way for the most part.

Get your squirt bottle, add more soap, then squirt the screens. Just zig zag down. Scrub the screen up and down and around and get a nice froth, then run the screen through slowly to rinse.

That what I do with the caked on screens here.

I don’t think the brand of soap matters. I’ve used ecover and now dawn.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I’ve tried all of that stuff before, though. TBH, I was getting the best results using Garry's brush method, but it was back breaking.

I think I’m gonna try some degreaser next, like that Zep stuff I’ve used for mini blinds in the past. I loved the results I got on the blinds, and I figure window screens probably have all of the same contaminants on them. I just think the dish detergents are too mild for what I’m up against, and they don’t seem to really start working on the dirt until you add some agitation and/or hot water. But the screen washer begins to rinse away the soap as soon as I start scrubbing, and I’m working with cold water.

A lot of guys have had great success with Liquid tide with bleach alternative. I have tried it myself and it seemed to work well. You don’t get the sudden you get with dish soap and it does a good job. On the screens. Some guys have used it with just the sub and tap method so it might do well to give a quick rinse and tap. I have not used it enough to guarantee it will work but I think it will.

The guys who recommend it stress you have to get the liquid tide WITH " BEACH AKTERNATIVE" not regular bleach.

When it comes to screens, I use tile cleaner from the dollar store and wow, I have had so many compliments from it

Try dry brushing the screens before washing them if they are really dirty.

Yeah, I find that if I wash them down real good with soapy water they always come out looking new. It is a little work though. I try not to bend over. I wash the top side and flip the screen over and was the other side. Works for me. That said, I would like to try the screen washer eventually…

Yeah, that wound seriously suck here. It’s the reason I made the washer. I’ve found a heavy dawn solution works incredibly well. I have given thought to a soap dispenser, I’m just not sure it’s really needed.

Hey your the screen cleaning guru, not me. I know nothing Bout it… I admit… But I do agree with the octopus guy in that clean them first with a brush if you gotta do a manual clean…
