When I started, I bought the starter kit from WCR. It came withe Unger ergotech squeegees and several basic pieces. I have not used anything else. I have since bought several more ergotechs. I don’t really have any idea’s how to improve it either.
I’ve got pretty much every major brand. My goto setup was a steccone feather weight magic clip handle with ettore aluminum channel.[FONT=tahoma][SIZE=3]

The lightness is great. I felt like I had more dexterity working the edges. The Ettore channels seem to drain water better than the steccone.

I’ve gotten my index finger stuck under the magi clip more than once. It doesn’t hurt to bad, but Im always thankful that my finger didnt’ get sliced open. The clip is spring loaded and its easy to let a wet finger slip under the catch mechanism. Id like the clip changed to prevent an accidental injury.
… I use the Ettore swivel that has a 0 degree option. I like it because it fits my hand well and the swivel and 0 degree come in handy all the time. The 0 degree option is spring loaded too so you can fix it at 0 degree or adjust it so it opens up based on how much pressure you use. If it were lighter it may be better.
i like the wagtail blue ribbon fitted with a aluminium steccone channel,a lot lighter and the steccone channel doesnt bend easily . i believe you can further lighten up the wagtail handle by drilling holes in it without it losing strength
i would not say it would be an improvement … but my instinct says if they produced an ultra light version of the ergotech along the lines of a steccone featherweight it would be a big seller … there is a big difference in weight between a 14 " ergo and 14 " featherweight when you have used a Steconne for 3 years , when you go back to the the ergo techs if feels like a heavy weight…
an idea would be to pop rivet (or spring loaded peg?)a Steccone channel onto the blue wagtail in place of the original centre screw . the tip of the rivet/peg should be long enough to grip the squeegee rubber and that would get rid of the screw idea . i think a lot of the blue plastic that supports the blade (but doesnt support it when using a Steccone channel) ,it could be carved away further reducing weight
better still would be some kind of tiny spring clamp to grip channel + rubber , that would save the channel from being drilled , then any channel could be fitted quickly
i think sometimes people misunderstand me… i am saying with a pad on it its too heavy … there is a hole in the market for a streamlined ultralight wash and squeegee all in one tool… but it has to be ultra light … this is the reason why wagtail is not a huge seller and some people say fanning with the hand is simply too much strain…
Exactly that is my point … all i am saying is there is a market for an ultralight streamlined wagtail type squeegee…without a video or the actual tool in my hands it is difficult to explain what i mean
Agreed, and if I’m using Herman’s flat bar scrubber with a Microtiger sleeve and I am careful I can keep most of the water on the front side. Therefore, lighter. Now then the sleeve gets dirty and I turn it around and I have a clean side to use but even if I wring it, it’s now heavier.
I don’t think that someone will come up with something that can hold water better then a Wagtail pad and distribute it well and still be lighter.
Back to the squeegee channel. I’m not saying to not be concerned with the weight of it, but rivet0r is right. Water is the culprit.
You don’t use the swivel function though do you John? It may appear to be heavy, but my guess is you aren’t feeling the full benefits of the squeegee action that takes most of the work out of the fanning process. I dunno, I don’t think you ever got on with the swivel. Before when I had hand cramps & tendinitis - I switched completely to the Wagtail (90%) & my problems went away - including my back ache, which is through the Wagtail having a longer reach.
I never had a problem with striped threads.
The quick release was altered with the blue ribbon slimline with the screw that you refer to as not being quick release.
The problem was not addressed because there wasn’t one.
I respect your answer totally Karl and i have not given up on the idea of trying the wagtail out again…i got my tennis arm through setting up my sectional ladders and not through using a squeegee… regarding the reach i always use a step ladder because when you over reach you are actually putting a lot of strain on your shoulder joint… i use a step ladder because i feel its better for my body and all that over stretching just adds more stress to the daily work load… but i will test out the wagtails again…
But i am going to be my own man and catagorically say that i strongly believe the wagtail and flip pad are too heavy. and it needs to be reduced in weight for those that like to fan with the hand , for pole work yes i believe its great… but judging from all the videos of wagtail over 70 % are with it being shown on a pole ,next time i order from Window cleaning wareh… in Uk i will get the angle adaptor for the wagtail
so there is a small chance still that i will end up eating my words, because i can see the benefit of using it on a small pole with that angle piece , once i have it i will let you know how i got on …( and it will be with the swivel )
