Stainless steel cleaner residue on windows!

Hi all, ive been window cleaning for about a year now and have never ran into anything like this. With this being said I am also new to this forum so if this post is in the wrong section please let me know!

So I used to clean windows for a local pizzeria until they went out of business. A few months later a new pizzeria moved in and they cleaned the window trim with stainless steel cleaner and some of it ran down the windows where it later baked in the sun for 3-4 weeks and left white ish lines on the glass that I cannot seem to get off. I’m not sure if there is a certain type of scrub pad that is abrasive but not to abrasive to scratch the glass or certain chemicals to use for removal of these lines so any input is greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

without seeing a picture i think you have 4 possibilities.
(manage customer expectations)
1.try steel wool (i dont think that will do anything)
2.polish window(may not work if the glass has been acid etched)
3. if glass is etched will need to be restored with glass renu
4. glass will need to be replaced

Most Stainless Steel cleaners/polishes are silicon based products

aviloria thanks for the input I will have to look into that! But bumblebee are you saying that because it is silicon based it should not have etched the glass?

if silicon try magic eraser and steel wool
should take it off

Just a heads up: steel wool will rust, and sometimes pretty quickly. I would never use the same pad for a second day. I prefer bronze wool, which holds up better and doesn’t rust.

Actually, the steel wool 0000 will damage some tempered coated glass, watch for the tinted coating… Especially if it looks a orange purple color in the sun… Take extreme cation using it or you might find you did a “bang up job.” Start in a small area then go outside and look in… Be careful…

i just assumed the stain was on the outside. if the glass feels unusually sticky when wet on the inside it is most likely tinted. also never use a razor on tinted glass or anything other than soap and water. had a customer complain that we scratch her tint with our sponges.
