Storefront canvassing script

I started my business about 2 weeks ago and have canvassed about 25 stores with no succes. Im getting a bit discouraged. When I walk in I tell the owner or manager that I am a window cleaner in the area and am giving free estimates and then I tell him how much I would do the store for and give him my business card with the price on the back. At this point should I put him on the spot by asking him if they are interested or should I give him card and say “call if you are interested”?

“Would you be interested in getting that done today?”

No, dont say “call if you are interested”. You are creating your own “no”.

Yes. You arent putting him on the spot. You are requiring him/her to make a decision. It’s not semantics. Creating discomfort or tension is part of the sales process and yet, it doesnt have to be painful or unpleasant.

Ok. So be ready to clean right then and there or set up a time to come back? I assume you just do whatever customer wants.

Yes be ready to clean. But also tell customer what they need. Start with once a week schedule at $$, then increase price accordingly if they say every other or once a month.

Always give a reason for your side of the negotiation.
EX: "With the amount of traffic"… or "With the tables being right next to the windows…“because there are lots of divided panes…”

Additionally, after the initial cleaning inside/outside, it is a successful strategy to address what gets the dirtiest and is the quickest for you too. So, a price for outsides and doors both sides helps reduce their cost and makes it more profitable for you.

Excellent. Thanks for your help.

Just get as many lines in the water as you can. Sales is a numbers game. You can even go back to the same places that rejected you initially. Sometimes, maybe even a lot of times, they come around eventually.

I’ll give you a quick tip right here. The night before you go canvassing fill a spray bottle with water and just a little bit of dirt. Not too much. Spray the outside of the storefronts with a gentle even spray. The next day go inside and point out how bad the windows are and you can clean them right there. A little more work but your success rate will go up big time.

Out of the 25 how many have you gone back and done a follow up on? @Luke has a good YouTube vidoe on it. After a couple weeks should be a good enough amount of time for them to stare at those windows

Just got my first small storefront in a strip mall today! I think I can get the boutique next door as well. If I can that will be a quick 50 bucks.

Congrats @Jonathan31

What’s the service schedule weekly, ever 2 weeks, or every 28 days?

Once a month for now. Store owner may go to twice a month but she wants to wait and see. I know its not much but its a start. I am pretty certain I can get the boutique next door. Soon im getting a ladder and am going to explore residential.

Ok I’m about to spill the beans on a canvassing script guaranteed to land a ton of new accounts.

Put on a Slavic accent and skip shaving for like 5 days. If you already have a beard, trim it down to a heavy stubble that’s just riding the line between lazy grooming and deliberate facial hair. Speak loudly with a brusque manner.

Walk in to the shop of your choice and just get right to work. If anyone tries to stop you, reply: “Twenty dollars. Is OK.” (or however much you want to make for this job) then wink at the person who is talking to you and get right back to work.

When the work is done, approach the person who tried to stop you and state the price again. Keep repeating the price, followed with “Is OK.” Until you get paid. Then hold up your index finger and say “I come back, one month. BYE BYE” And walk out.

You just got yourself a job.

Haha im sure every window cleaner has thought about that…

I’m pretty sure most responsible window cleaners don’t think that way.
