I am planning on making a sign I put on the street in front of the house I am cleaning but I am not excited about what I have come up with so far. I need something catchy, yet professional, and FUN. I am thinking along the lines of CAUTION Shiny Windows Ahead in official looking road warning style. Black letters on yellow background. On the bottom is phone # and web address, all big enough to see and read from across the street. Also a holder for business cards and flier.
Does my idea suck? If it doesn’t suck what wording is best?
I think you have a good idea. “Caution” or “Danger” will get instant attention. Here are some of my thoughts on it-
Keep the background of the sign white except where the “caution” is (like how the sign generator that Chris posted looks.) You want it very easy to read.
Shiny Windows Ahead is good. Be sure to put “window cleaning” by the number just in case people do not decipher the “shiny windows” fast enough.
Leave your company name off of it
Make it a big enough sign to easily read from 50 ft away
Sounds like a good idea. Ideas on wording “Caution shiny windows ahead may be blinding to oncoming traffic” or “Caution shiny windows ahead may be blinding to future customers.” Let us know what you decide and how it works for you.
It is important to realize this sign will be FAR more effective at getting the neighbors than people speeding by at 30mph. I LOVE getting neighbors to sign up!
That is why a large A-frame sign would work the best, but you gotta start somewhere.
Sorry it took me so long to reply, my daughter had a surgery, all turned out very well. Medical science is fantastic.
Thanks for the encouragement, it appears you like the idea. My sign is about 3 feet high and 2 feet wide. When I figure out how to post a picture on here I will let you see it.
I was not really planning on getting any business from people in cars, my target is the neighbors and people walking the neighborhood.
here is another one I am going to try out next week I will attach it to my ladder rack and see if anyone bites. Just wish I would have rearranged the wording a bit.
Yea its an easy fix. takes about 5 min to reprint and peal a new sticker. I made some big banners I post out on some of the busy streets with my non work truck as well that say “for clean gutters call” or “For clean windows call…” these have been a great money maker as well anxious to see how many people will take cards.
Alright, one more possible configuration. To be a 36" diamond shape, 3/4" plywood mounted on a post in a 5gal bucket of cement to be about 7-8 feet high. Just like the signs in the neighborhood. Of course you’d have to make it come apart into 2 pieces so it could be moved easier.
I’ve just ordered these from WCR. I’ll park my lettered truck on the street as usual, and place these to the front and rear of the truck. I have business card holders on the truck too.
The signs look professional, and look like they’re meant for safety and not advertising. They draw attention to the truck, and the truck lettering and business card holders do the rest.
Not putting down other ideas at all…just submitting another one.
