Suction Cup Marks- Keep re-appearing

Helll all, I have a customer who is having some issues with suction cup marks that keep re- appearing. It seems that after a few months of cleaning these marks just start to re-appear.

What do you guys suggest for removing these marks?

A Hammer !

Have you tried some rubbing alcohol as long as they are not tinted.

Also the marks could be in between the panes of glass some time it comes that way from the manufacturer. Meaning the cup marks are on the 2 or 3 side of the glass and there’s nothing you can do about them.

hope this helps.

Yeah I totally now what you are talking about. Most of the time I thought they were on the inside of the glass because how could they still be there after being cleaned so many times. If I was sure they where on the outside I would use a magic eraser. They really are magical u now. The are one of my favorite tools. Stubborn finger prints have meet there match with those things. And caulk or smeary stuff gone. Magical!!

Yes magic erasers are a great time saver.

Seek wool

Seek wool and though shall find

Sorry couldn’t help it

Steel wool may help for sure, funny once it’s off though you’ll still see them when you set the glass next time to clean :frowning:

RainX can sometimes hide them a little.

The truth shall make you fret.

I’ve wondered if some suction marks are in the inside. They just won’t come off.

Thanks for the ideas guys. Keep them coming.

I just read this subject matter in another thread, be sure to check the entire thread.

wax the whole window, buff off the wax, and clean usual.

on exteriors it seems to make the whole window bead off water hiding the ‘letters’.

on interiors with ‘phantom stickers’ it lets the window get uniformly dirty between cleanings.

the glass will probably shed water differently than the rest of building but, it should hide the lettering.

give it a try, it’s worked well for me before.

To know how to get them off you must know what they are. The installers use rubbing alcohol to clean theirsuction cups. So in essence the glass becomes hydrophobic where the suction cups were. The solution is to make the entire pane hydrophobic with a good glass sealer.

A light micro lap with an optical cerium and wool pad. Not steel wool. Check by fogging the glass. I would use a light rotary machine. Check out my video of the Wobble Wheel with my slow release cerium. This is embedded in one of the first posts on my blog. The link to the blog is in my signature. This would very likely knock them out. Probably removing about ten to twenty angstroms of glass would be enough. Ten angstroms is called the near surface.

What has been mentioned regarding the use of a hydrophobic sealant would also work. But the right polishing system would do it just as quick as you can see from my video. And I prefer resurfacing the glass rather than covering over imperfections. Further the sealant could wear off in time.

The glass installers I met said denatured alcohol

Hey Andy,

Thanks for validating my position. The Sparkle product you mention is based on a superabrasive particle. Probably a synthetic silica. Or even a crude diatomaceous earth. And probably removed around 5 angstroms of glass. I really really need to start making more videos.

One thing I would luv to see within this community is a shift away from products to chemistry and physics. WAY too much emphasis is put on products. Of course we do have geniuses like Perry Tait. I can’t say enough about his genius and ethics. But his forte is in finding the right inventions and inventors. Then putting it all together and marketing. His science is the art of marketing and does it VERY well. I can mention other manufacturers within our group that are great. But WE are the people that truly have the passion for our work! And so it is my opinion that we should focus more on the science of what we are doing rather than trust the knowledge of the manufacturers. Guess I have always held this opinion.
