Sun Baked Tape on a Door Frame

I did a construction clean up. There are 2 doors. 1 door the contractor pealed the tape off and I removed the residue with Goo Gone. The other door the tape is still on it and Goo Gone won’t even touch it. I cannot scrape it because of the paint underneath.

Does anyone have a chemical or process suggestion for sun baked tape that Goo Gone won’t break down?

Try Oil-Flo or Goof-Off. Aluminum frames?

Oil-Flo perhaps? It’s like Goo Gone on steroids.

De-Solv-It works well for me as well.

Nuts! I had Oilflo with me and thought to try it but this is goo not oil. Do you think the Oilflo might break down the tape since it’s a petrolium product? I’ll try it. It’ll be next week before I can. The frames are aluminum.

What abrasive would you use? A white pad? I keep meaning to buy some of those.

You stated that the frames are painted. Are they painted, powder-coated, or anodized?

Oil-Flo works great with a sponge, white pad, shop rag, small dead furry creature, etc.

Less is better, especially to start…

Try to let it soak-in for a while.

Just slapping some on and then immediately scrubbing away- will make it more work than needed.

Right, ok. I’m sure the frames are anodized aluminum. They’re new. I’ll try the small dead furry creature

I tried Oil-flo today. I let it soak in for about 15 minutes and then tackled it with a plastic scraper. No joy. I tried De-Solv too after letting it sit and no joy there either. Any other ideas? I mean this stuff is completely baked on. I could scrape it off easily with a blade but that would scratch the door.

Try Goof Off.

Right, right. I should have tried that today:(

I tried Goof Off. I called the glass company and they are going to let me know that they suggest. They may suggest replacing the individual panel that the film is on.

I tried EVERYTHING that I could think of or find. The installer is going to replace the panel that has the tape stuck to it.

try paint thinner and a white pad.
