Looks like a chef’s knife bag that you’re using as a tool holder

It has 56 pockets, with room for 2 channels in each. Ample room to fill out my collection of squeegees in 1/8th inch increments.

Alex Lacey where’d you get it? Did you make it?

I used to raise an eyebrow at having so many squeegees, but after accidentally finding out my 24" fit perfectly in a job I had, it cut my time down from 60 minutes down to about 30. It was a pretty nice find.

So I ordered a bunch of pulex channels and will be cutting them in 1" increments from 7" to 16".

Yeah, I took the last couple evenings putting it together. It’s one of those projects that I’ve been thinking about doing for a long time. Finally got to it.

We have so many homes around here with historic true divide windows, where having the perfect fit squeegee can save a ton of time. The most aggravating part was digging through the tool box to find the right size channel. And each home’s windows are sized just a little different.

I actually “inherited” a lot of the squeegees pictured above. A friend who got out of the business gave me all of the brass ones. He had even engraved most of them with their sizes in millimeters. I may just switch to metric… :stuck_out_tongue:

Ouch, those old windows would suck.

Yeah, metric would be a LOT better. But I guess you could do decimal like 7.125 but that’s a lot of engraving. Maybe a water proof sharpie and a piece of tape over it to help prevent runs?

Next step will be a lot messier: going to work on my numerous spare aluminum channels with the cutoff saw, to complete the set

I have the same setup and was taught to do it that way 20 years ago. I really don’t know why people don’t do it that way. (Especially in New England)
I have a roller bag like yours that I made, but I found that when I was working it took a lot of work to keep them in order. I’m working on a bag right now that will be easier to keep channels organized.
I think I posted my setup somewhere on this site a few years ago?
I have a thousand ideas for the perfect organizer. It’s lame, but besides a ladder roller, that’s been my obsession for years. I’m thinking of making a wood case with dividers by size, or a double sided bag (like a large cosmetic bag that could hang on a door handle and will either have vinyl pockets or pockets with tubes to hold the squeegees. (Pvc tubing). Luckily my hobbies are woodworking and sewing, so I’m hoping to figure something out!
I was just going through my squeegees today,
How do you keep track of sizes? Do you write it on the squeegees? I’ve tried metal stamping, engraving, but really writing is the quickest and lasts a half season until you have to rewrite the size.

what’s a ladder roller?

I think I’m going to adopt my friend’s method of engraving them with metric sizes. It’ll be a project for another night. But at least half of the brass ones are already engraved.

The other part will be labelling the pockets somehow, so I can find the right size channels quickly- and put them back in the right spots. Not sure what I’ll use for that- maybe a white fabric pen? If there’s such a thing…

Metric definitely would be easier, but it’s gonna give my OCD fits. What interval do I go with? 3mm is the closest to 1/8", but it’s an odd number. 4mm would also be awkward, with the sizes only landing on an even centimeter every fifth channel. 5mm would be pretty straight forward, but it’s just a little wider of a size difference than I’d really like. And then 2mm would be pretty easy, too, but is just plain overkill.

With fractional sizes, I can devote the lower half of the holder to full 1/4" sizes, and the upper half to the 1/8" in-between sizes. That way there’s a discernible difference between the two channels in one slot.

I know, I’ll compromise. Top half will be Metric, and the lower half will be SAE…
