Everytime I think that I can clean windows another ‘curly’ one turns up. Today I had a bank of 20ft high windows with only 1 metre in front of them up to a pool. I did them on a long pole but it wasn’t easy and wasn’t a fantastic outcome. I’m very new to this ‘game’, I’m loving it and learning all the time. I really appreciate the feedback I get from these wonderful forums.
How can I do this better please?
Thanks
Alan

So you’re saying that the pool itself is one meter away from the wall that the windows are on?
If that’s the case, perhaps you could stand in the pool. It has precedent.
I like the way you’re thinking but it’s mid winter here and today just happened to be the coldest day of this winter. I ran the pole into the pool as I pulled the squeegee but didn’t actually get in the water.
I agree with Jimmy, i use a unger goose neck attachment that goes int he end of your pole u can adjust the angle to make it easier to pole in a tight spot amongst other benefits. Also i always use a wide body channel with a swivel handle for all pole work (i.e. a sorbo). High pole work requires a LOT of practice make sure you feather the top getting all your water on your squeegee not leaving any behind or you will get streaks/runs.
Wow,
you guys are awesome, thanks so much for all of the ideas and feedback, I really do appreciate it.
I like the boat idea but for 2 things, 1 I haven’t got a boat and 2 the pool is only 8 feet wide as it is a lap pool.
Thanks Alex for the YouTube clip, these things both depress me and excite me, I have so much to learn, I have a long way to go, but that’s the bit that also excites me also, learning new skills every day is fantastic.
I need to explain my windows a little better. They are aluminium framed 20ft high windows, not windows 20ft off the ground, they are great big long windows and next to them outside is only a 3ft path so there is little room to walk a pole out. I hate to admit it but I haven’t got roof racks on my van or used a long ladder as yet but maybe that’s what I have to do, just climb each one and do them slowly off a ladder, what do you think? I am having nightmares about them as I think I may have done a ‘****’ job on them so I want to make it right no matter what. The day I did them was very stormy and myself and the customer didn’t notice anything untoward but I’m worried once the sun came out my inadequacies would be on display.
Hi! I’m a newbie too so you might wait to see what the more experienced guys and gals think. But do you have any indoor pure water equipment? I think I would try to clean them traditionally like you did, but then spray an unger pad with pure water and do a once over to get rid of any streaks or drips left from squeegeeing at the weird angle. I am not good at squeegeeing with a pole yet. The videos make it look so easy. Anyway, that’s all I can think of but I would wait and see if others chime in with reasons pure water may or may not work to correct any streaks. Good luck!

Wow, thanks Natalie, I love all the feedback that comes on here and I really appreciate it. This is how “newbie” I am, I don’t even know what indoor pure water equipment or an Unger pad are? May be different here in Australia but more likely just something I haven’t as yet discovered. I’m going to borrow a long ladder and go back and try to do it off the ladder but please explain what you mean. The videos make it all look easy but for me that’s half of the thrill the challenge of getting better and better. I’m not too bad off the pole but this one, standing right next to the window I just couldn’t get a smooth pull.
Thanks for your help and have a great week
Alan
G’day Alan, u dont really see the speed cleaning kits in ur local cleaning suppliers u can just go to bunnings go down the cleaning isle and u will see a whole rage of microfibre pads that will attach to swivel heads.
You should be able to find a head that will fit on your pole( i find a doodle bug works best) these are all i use not that i use these kits often. you could always buy a kit from these guys. i have never tried. i have in the passed purchased from US sites however i found that unless it was a bulk order the postage fees made it more costly than using local suppliers. In all honestly it was quite some time ago for all i know freight charges between countries may be more affordable these days.
When poling in a limited space on long pulls i tend to use my shoulder as the pole comes down to feed it behind myself using my shoulder to guide the pole smoothly, as long as your pulls start without steaks and you keep the pressure even its should be good.
Are you in Australia, where are you? So is it micro fibre pads on a pole that we’re talking about here? What about the indoor pure water equipment, what’s that?
I’ll try your shoulder technique, I just couldn’t keep the pole moving as I was trying to feed it off beside myself.
I’m in Hervey bay, micro fibre pads are part of the indoor cleaning kits, various pads are incorporated with pure water to clean the glass without squeegees.
