These were by far the dirtiest we’ve ever had to tackle. Completely trashed from years and years of spiders taking up residence. This is in a local mental health facility- hopefully we’re making the place a little less scary for visitors
Oh, they’ve got clean windows now? Book me for 2 weeks. Not next to the ice machine, though, the noise interferes with my hallucinations.
About 14 years ago we did 4800 windows in a foundry, not done since 1960’s. It was archeology, not window cleaning. Dirtiest job before or since.

2 years ago I did a full restoration on a bunch of 167 year old double hungs with exterior wooden storms.
I dont think they were ever opened or cleaned.
$150 each, there were 22 of them
Now if you can just prevent the giant spiders coming through the wall…
I did a smokers house. Windows probably hadn’t been cleaned in 30 years. The windows were yellow and sticky and I had to wash my mop after every window.
The worst for me was a sketchy dog grooming place…the Windows were so dirty they looked as if they had been painted over. Oh and there were mounds of dog feces and hair. It was a real gagger…
My dad on the other hand got asked to clean an adult book store that had mirrors for a viewing room. He said HELL NO to that one…
It probably would be the same as above: long time smokers.
Had to throw out the mop if I remember correctly.
The funny thing is I made a comment about a previous client who had smoked indoors to the owner when he asked something about dirty glass. Was a bit awkward when I saw the black death getting squeegeed off the glass.
they will be calling you in 10y again
we cleaned the windows last year on office that wasn’t clean in 25y. they guy was so happy he couldn’t believe what a difference clean glass make.
when we finish last year my wife said to him don’t wait another 25y before get them clean again :))))))
guess what?
he called this spring again and is enjoying clear view
Glass from cigars comes off black.
Hahaha, I know ;). I had a customer who was so thrilled to have his office windows cleaned, and wrote in his testimonial “I hope we don’t wait another 4 years…” That was in 2010, and I still haven’t managed to get them to reschedule!
With this account, they plan on having different windows done each year in rotation, because of the sheer immensity of the complex. So it might be another 4 or 5 years before these ones get cleaned again. I feel kinda bad for the people in these offices…
Smoker’s houses are always gross. Some of the beach houses and buildings that have been blasted by salt water for years and years are really nasty and take multiple passes to clean right.

Horizontal bi-fold garage doors at a diesel and tire mechanics. After clearing away the layers of diesel, oil, and spots of rubber, I found paint overspray. What…a…bch
Oh, and one of my first jobs was a massive set of sliding mirrors. Rookie error - I thought were tinted, haha!. 20yrs of smoke I reckon. Hands were stained for days…gagggg…
I did a job early on where the windows had not been cleaned in 14 years (never since the owners moved in). I would clean 3 pieces of 3 x 3 interior glass & then have to go change the bucket of water and thoroughly clean the mop.
The good news is that the customer has had 3 homes since then and I have cleaned them all for 12 years.
Dang, after these stories, a little bit of fly guts/blood doesn’t seem to bad.
I never took pictures but I once’s, first pressure washed the out sides… With the white general tip… They had pounds dirt and taking the screens out was a nightmare the dirt had them jammed in
Worst was a smokers home, years and years of yellow nicotine stained interior glass. I was using bronze wool on the inside!
The outside had metal screens, all oxidized of course and had to use OC and white pad to clean them up.

It may have been the worst smoker’s house, done too many so I’m not sure- this April. Especially the 8 high windows with loads of furniture and unmovable items to move and avoid. I had to do each one about three times and wash my mop over and over again. The man of the house was bowled over by how good they looked. If he does call back I hope it’s soon! Of course there’s one we do once a year and it’s disgusting every year!
Yeah, I deal with this every week. I use the can opener (tool of 1,000 uses) to chisel some of the dirt out and then the screen can be removed. Then use the tool to break up the dirt enough where I can brush it out.
the other yr i did a very tall house windows hadnt been cleaned in 52 yrs. the owners knew precisely when because they were the last to clean them personally. i wasnt asked to do the insides which were bad too. 1 tatty big window several floors up was the highest iv ever been on a ladder and i got it ,but at some risk . later ,the owner said to me, "dont bother with getting that window "

I cleaned a house where the owner smoked 2 packs a day for 20 years. The windows were frosted brown. TSP melted the mess instantly - no steel wool, no scraper needed. It’s weird that TSP works so well for smoke residue.
