So I experienced a very odd estimate today.
Two days ago I was hanging door hangers and met an elderly woman who wanted an estimate on her windows. She was heading to town so I set an appt for me to come later and give her the estimate.
I got there today and knocked on the door, no answer. She told me she would be there and her car was there, so I went to the side door and knocked. No answer. I went to the basement door and knocked, no answer. That’s when I smelled the gas leak.
Now I’m not one to assume the worst. So I try all the doors again. Look around the property for signs of her. The windows all have blinds so I can’t see inside. Normally I would have just written the estimate and left it on her door. But she said she would be there, she lives alone, her car was still there, and I smelled a gas leak.
So after knocking on every surface twice and still no answer I made the decision to call 911.
They got there very quick, did all the same things, and made the decision to break into the home.
She wasn’t in the house.
I don’t know if she went for a walk, or what, but she wasn’t there.
I still don’t know where she is. I did not get her phone number when I made the appt (Big Mistake Apparently) .
So I guess I will stop by her house tomorrow and if she is there apologize for having the fire dept break into her home. Offer to pay for damages, and hope she isn’t angry.
Just a lesson to you all. Get the phone number! I could have gotten it, called her cell phone, her answer, and save us both a lot of trouble.
