The Mennonite Mafia

You’re mixing up Amish with Mennonite. It’s sort of like mixing up dogs with wolves or cats with lions. The Mennonites came out of the Anabaptist movement in Germany back in the 1400’s or there abouts. They were lead by a guy named Menno Simons (which is where they got their name).

The Anabaptists laid the groundwork for the Reformation under Luther and Zwingli. The Mennonites developed alongside the reformation they were opposed to both the Roman Catholics AND some of the Protestant beliefs. Later on, the Mennonites had a split and the Amish group came out of the Mennonites. The Amish pretty much decided that 1700 was a pretty good year and wanted to keep it around. The Mennonites use modern technology like trucks and bulldozers and whatnot. The Amish like Ye Olde School. Both of them are pretty legalistic, but they’re pretty good peeps overall.

Yeah. Over here is a different story. They’re all good people but let them find out a good business and they’ll swarm like bees for a year then, if it doesn’t work out, they’ll swarm to the next profession. I see it all the time. Im surrounded by these people… I’m not really concerned about them I just think it’s funny when they all talk about me and my business and are like, oh YOURE’RE MAKING MONEY? Of course I am, do I look like a guy that changes professions every other year? Like you guys…

Mennonites use the buggy here still… They’re called Old Order. Most of them ride bikes EVERYWHERE… I have to swerve so I don’t hit one about every other mile… You got a good grip on what happened but the only way to tell if that buggy was Amish or Mennonite is by the color…

Wow I’m surprised you’re so versed in this religious sect/cult… Kudos JaredAI!! A lot of guys here wouldn’t know all that…

This post was really just to poke fun at them…

Jared knows his stuff (usually)

We have a Mennonite family in my area. They farm and have a vegetable/baked goods etc. stand based on the honor system.
I’ve spoken to them a couple of times and they are very nice people charging a fair price for quality stuff.
We don’t agree on key religious matters, but I can’t criticize their public character in any way.

Oh, I didn’t know you had the OO up in there, but I guess in that area it makes sense. We just have the regular ones. No buggies.

I’ve studied a lot of church history and historical theology, but I’ve spent more time on newer religious movements. It’s something I’m really interested in, but when we moved from Iowa to NM in 2010, I donated maybe a couple thousand books to a seminary because I didn’t want the hassle of moving the suckers. I kept a lot of my more hard to get Watchtower and LDS books and a lot of church history is available online in pdf formats so I said screw it and donated a ton (i think literally).

Naw, here’s how you do it.

When you watch the video, it’s funny, but it really is a homage to a hardworking group of people.

I see you’re viewpoint Dan but I know behind closed doors they criticize me all the time. They gossip almost as much as we do here… Word travels through their community like lightning… In the center of the state it’s a different story. If you don’t follow their strict rules you’re damned to hell. They won’t tell you that to your face but I’m telling ya, that’s what they think…

Damn double posts… Why does it keep doing that? Must be god striking me down…

I’m trying real hard not to post Johnny Cash’s God’s Gonna Cut You Down video, but it’s a good video.

If you get the popup “leave this page” warning, then it’s probably posted and if you click it it might double post or something. It’s a new bug that just showed up.
