I grew up in Flint, MI and if anyone understands the working man’s mentality it is me. I was immersed in blue collar my entire life, union culture was around every corner and in almost every home. After all, Flint is the birthplace of General Motors, and just down the road is Detroit also know as the Motor City.
Do I have anything against a job well done? Nope.
Do I support off-shoring jobs and breaking the unions? Nope.
Do I support helping small business guys with the wrong mentality? YES…CONTINUE READING
I have been a serial entrepenuer, avid xtreme sports enthusiast, and overall fun loving criminal most of my life.
I finally grew up and got all spiritual and stuff. Yes… I have was a living example of what not to do for many years. As a direct result of the many hardships I have suffered and all the things I have done. I set out to make it right with my Creator, my family, and the world. I set out to help others just like what Josh is doing here.
Why? Because our real purpose in life is to be of maximum service to God and his fellows right? (Don’t get your butt puckered.) I am spiritual not religious. I don’t care what you believe because there is more than one way to get to Denny’s. You take your path. I will take mine. It’s all good.
I only thought I quit owning a job. I used to "think"I owned a business.
Send Jim it is my belief there is a strong need for us in the industry to educate the public about our industry.
I did not own more than a job even though I had all the systems and procedures in place. How do I know? If I was let’s say… In a motorcycle wreck and had some brain damage, everything would fall apart.
Like what happened with my other business venture and brought me back to window cleaning. That… and a friendly wager I made with my son about window cleaning. That’s what happened with my Marketing Company. Why?
Because I was the catalyst that made it all happen. The overall brain that over 200 people counted on for financial stability was damaged and I lost so much money as a direct result it would bring you to tears.
Ask yourself, “Self. Am I a part of the problem, or am I a part of the solution?”
Following Josh’s suggestions will make you part of the SOLUTION. Even though I haven’t seen his material yet. I have a good feeling about this guy having his motives in the right place. Can’t speak for his products yet. But I can say his heart is definitely in the right place.
The best way to educate the masses about our industry is through our actions. Not our words. Like most solutions in life. ACTION is what is important.
You as a member or troll on this forum deserve to be the very best you possibly can be at all times. Meaning your image and actions as professionals in the community should be on point at all times. The way you operate your business speaks volumes.
Results in our industry are based on “attention to detail”. Does your business display attention to detail by having systems and procedures in place to get the EXACT same client experience each and every time? If not…
Suck it up Princess… I am about to offend you.

You own a job. Now that we have poked the problem. What’s the solution? What say you?
Although I’m sure a lot of you wouldn’t guess, I am a NUT about process/procedure.
In all aspects.
Even though we are in an “everyday/job is different” environment, that calls for a lot of improvisation…
There still should be a standard, to which we all come back to and start from.
Hmm… lets see if I can say that better…
Like a weight, tied to a string, you may have to pull it a little to the left, but HOW MUCH is relative to the drop center.
And more important, you know it will always fall back to drop center.
(it’s the constant starting and ending point)
People think I’m crazy for starting every house I do on the first floor, inside.
But my reason is because I want the cust to get comfortable with our process, our crew, and having people in their house in general.
Yes, I realize that some cust have people in and out of their house quite often.
But other’s don’t.
Either way… this is our process.
I know my cust acq cost
I know my COGS
I know that in 2012 my Storefront/Retail vs Commercial was 20% to 16%
I know that it flipflopped by 2014 at 17 and 22
I know THAT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMMERCIAL AND STOREFRONT/RETAIL CUSTOMERS
You wanna talk about “anal”/"attention to detail?"
Give me a second… I’ll pull up 6 diffent pie chart’s for “Anal” on any given month. :o
Hey bro… I don’t think anyone is trying to “dismiss the job” here. In fact, being a CEO is part of the job description. So these webinars and all this business building talk really is for the improvement of those in our wonderful community that may only have technical knowledge.
I get it though…
We come here to talk shop about window cleaning.
You have systems and procedures. You have your system down even though everyone else thinks your looney. Screw them. What other people think of your procedure has absolutely no effect on you whatsoever. As long as you don’t let it, anyway. You do you my man. You be you.
There are just a lot of other Window Cleaning Business Owners out there that don’t have your business savvy. JfromtheD
So in essence… All this Business Development and marketing stuff is “Learning the F-ing job”.
