I flyered several upscale neighborhoods Tuesday & Wednesday of this week. I’ve been getting a good many calls yesterday and today so my flyer must be a pretty good one this time.
But I got a call just a while ago from a guy who would not identify himself. He proceded to ask me a sequence of questions.
“How much do you charge for a house?”
“You power wash houses?”
“Do you use hot water?”
“Are you licensed and bonded?”
“You have flyered in a private neighborhood, did you know that’s a $7,000.00 fine?”
“Are your chemicals bio-degradable/DEHEC approved?”
“I’m reporting you to DEHEC…you’ll be hearing from them.” “Have a nice day!” CLICK! He hung up.
When he first asked how much I charge for power washing a house I immediately thought here we go again…another competitor trying to find out my prices.
Then the guy starts with all of these questions that for the most part only folks in the cleaning business would ask.
My thoughts are that this is another guy in the cleaning biz trying to bully me around. I just wish he was big enough to identify himself. It just gives you a not so great feeling when someone calls anonymously to rake you out like this. I checked my caller ID and it said “Restricted Call”.
ive never got any calls like that bro… but to be honest even if this DEHEC contacts you, you will not be charge $7,000.00… cause this would be your 1st offense.
im thinking that this DEHEC is just a homeowners association that have rules and regulations.
Now if they contact you and asked you not you put your flyers again and you do it, then chances are they will fine you:(
Check with your phone company…I pay something like $2.00 a month that wont allow a restricted number from calling. They have to unblock thier number before they call(*82 I think)
Richard if there was really a problem, like a homeowner being upset, they would have identified themselves.
I’m sure this was another window cleaner/pressure washer. He was probably jealous of your ad. Infact, I bet he was delivering fliers himself, and ran across one of yours before the homeowners got it.
On the bright side, people are reading your fliers, and your getting a response!
I asked the guy which neighborhood he was speaking of that I flyered in and he told me. I feel that if he was with the homeowners association he would have been up front with me. He would have no need to be anonymous if he was with the homeowners association.
He didn’t make any references to window cleaning so I guess he’s a pressure washer guy and may not be doing so well if he feels compelled to call me up and talk trash like he did.
I pranked called another window cleaning company in my area last week…
It’s some new company that’s like FISH…
anyway they had some punk kids putting fliers on the mailbox’s of a high end neighborhood I have on lock-down…they forgot to ask me permission:p
What they did was against the law so I called (pretending to be a home owner) and made sure that was last time they did that. I doubt they will even come near that neighborhood
You should have told him you do house washes for $99.00 for a 2500 sq ft. home and listen for his head to blow off (High pressure and from a ladder of course).
I do joke a lot with people that call me. “How much do you charge to clean a house”, I reply with “a million dollars Mrs.Jones, I only need to do one house and I’m set for life!”…they laugh and I feel if they’re serious.
I got a call from a cop for advertising in a gated community. He was very cool about and just asked that I please don’t do it again.
As for this person with the threats, so what. He acts like he just caught you on video selling crack. Whether it is a competitor or some screwy homeowner really does not matter.
Now the time I caught a guy (window cleaner) taking my fliers that I just passed out… you would have thought he slapped my mama
That’s the funny thing about this call I got. He’s going to report me to “DEHEC”. What in the world is it that he caught me doing that is in any violation of “DEHEC”?
This guy was not a homeowner in the gated community. He is a window cleaner/power washer. I’m pretty sure I know who he is. I actually saw his truck in the neighborhood he mentioned on the very day he called me and raked me out.
The bad thing is that I have been very friendly to him and his wife when I run into them but he wants to go behind my back and stoop so low and pull this B.S. phone call crap.
You know what though, even though I’ve got his number, I’m going to be the bigger guy and continue to be friendly. I don’t have a problem…he does.
I do not remember where someone posted on here or NWCD about turning in a competitor because they found out about their taxes or something like that.
That received a chilly response from most. I don’t play dirty, in fact I don’t play around at all. I don’t even think about competition. I just focus on getting more customers and selling more to the one I have.
Now if some schmuck wants to hijack my fliers, we are going to have a problem.
I have had great luck with the pull tab fliers, so when I stopped by the local market and found that my flier was gone, but conveniently the competition from out of town now had cards posted, I took a stack of my own cards and pinned them right next to his!!
There is no need for dirty tricks, competition just means all of our customers will get a quality product because it keeps us from becoming apathetic.
