Me: Sir…our work is…
Customer: Interrupts me…You know my guy use to do it at 250$!
Me : Why dont you use him this year;
Customer: Well I lost his number and cant seem to fing him.
me: Ok…so its 350$ when do you want us to schedule you;
Customer: I will call you
Me: Thank you have a nice day.
The bad thing is, it’s all on how you approach things in life, in general.
Take this part…
I mean, seriously.
If people would just be a normal, half human being, and say
"hey, is there any chance you could work with me, at $300?
(offer, with a polite question mark at the end)
We might actually think about it.
But the whole outraged asshole gig… I’m with you.
“I will give you $300?”
No sir, “you will” go get bent, and I WILL turn my back on your rude ass.
I literally just left a customer like this… Did the estimate, she got a flyer from me that had $50 off every service we offer, she wanted exterior window cleaning and roof cleaning.
roof cleaning $499 to $449
exterior only window cleaning $213 to $163.
I give her the total for the work $612…
After she called because “I got your flyer last week and would like to use the coupons” she asks why the window cleaning is so expensive, then asks me if that’s the “best price I can give for roof cleaning because she’s getting other quotes”
I have no doubt about her getting on the schedule, but it just blows my mind. This isn’t an auction, I’m running a business.

I just realized today I’m tired of kissing peoples asses… It’s due time they start kissing mine. An hour after I thought that I landed two big jobs, a car dealership and a hotel, both chains… Because you know what, I have a service they can’t get just everywhere. If they don’t want to pay what you need then move on to bigger and better things. I go for the higher paying jobs…
Oh, I love to kiss peoples asses.
I honestly don’t get the chance enough.
It’s actually fun to me.
Because people who know me, have a hard time keeping a straight face when I do it.
I can talk so fast, that I could call them an asshole, real quick, and they wouldn’t even know it.
I purposely throw in insults under my breath, it’s like a game.
Yeah you’re good at that… If you can do it nonchalantly that’s great but over all I WILL NOT kiss any asses. I am getting better at telling people to buzz off nicely though…
… Some people like to haggle… He wants to pay $300, tell him $330.
I bid a job last week for $400 and the woman was ecstatic when I came down $20.
$20 is chump change.
X 1000. I don’t mind when people try to haggle. I get it. But if they’re rude and condescending about it, “goodbye”. If they don’t have the decency to treat me as a fellow (equal) human being, I don’t have the time for them. They’ve proven that they don’t deserve my consideration.
Hey, I’m even happy if they have to “fake it” in the sense that they feel they’re better than me, but choose to try and be civil. At least they’re trying!
I had a longtime customer who’s house I did inside and outside for $180. This was a pretty good price for this house and he was a really whiny dude (which is annoying in its own right). He tried to talk me down, and I told him it was already a low price and I couldn’t move on it. He then grabbed a competitor’s flyer and brought it to me and said, “Look, they’re only asking $100”. I then looked closer at the flyer, and it was only the outside for $100 and inside and outside for $200. When I pointed it out he felt stupid and backed off. Also, this guy’s basement was covered in cat crap and broken glass.
Like other people here have pointed out here, tastefully asking for a lower price never bothers me, I’ll always at least drop a little off of the quote or offer something extra for free (mirrors/screens), but when they’re whiny or trying to take advantage it just makes me not want them as a customer.
I LOOOVE the “clarification of what you are too shtoopid to comprehend, in the ad” angle.
(it’s like a quiet satisfaction, when you point it out)
It’s at that very moment, you could ask for $500 bucks and they wouldn’t flinch,
because they realize they were being a prick.
(or they would go all pocket lawyer “false advertising”/“I need to investigate”/“I’ll let you know”)
I had a customer ask me for a window cleaning quote. His wife met me at the house and the widows were trashed. Had never been professionally cleaned in 5 years. The job was about 30 mins away so I gave them a price of $480, she said her husband would call me and her exact words were " Jew me down" because he’s a good negotiator. I smile and told her to let her husband know that I don’t negotiate and that I always give my best price first and the price would only go up. She smiled and said “we’ll see.” So her husband calls me up and tries to get me to come down off my price, I told him that I had already told his wife that I won’t negotiate. He got pissed and said he was offended and that he doesn’t do business with people who aren’t willing to negotiate. I laughed and said no problem have a great day. He called 6 months later and said the last guy did a crappy job and wanted a quote. I raised it $200 and told him I still don’t negotiate. We did his house the next week for $680. He’s sent me several referrals but let’s them all know to take my first offer or I will only raise the price

Insanely offensive. I like to think I would have told them to pound sand at that very instant. Prolly not though. I wouldn’t have been that quick on my feet, but later I would have thought to myself “I should have told them to pound sand!” and then regretted my ineptitude.
Imagine using that term in our market, J!

Exactly so what they try to haggle. Ya have to be a salesman around here. " Wow 350 that is a lot can you do it for 300 " actually my prices are very competitive with the better companies out there " Don’t jump at giving them the 20 or whatever off yet wait see what he says next . most people just want to complain because honestly everything is expensive these days . At the end if he hasn’t committed then I say ok let me work with you I would be more than happy to give you a first time customer discount . I have May 26 and May 28 available we can do it for 325 what day is better for you.
I love the people that say with there chest out we never lower our prices our prices are our prices that’s why we have them bla bla bla. Oh please lol like Mathew says what’s $20 even $30. Your gaining a customer. Once you do them 1x. There more then likely coming back. I can go through my customer list an find a handful of people that haggled , an now there on a regular schedule ,an the price is back to were it should be.
