Trailer Help Please!

I am looking to purchase a trailer to use soon and wanted to see what your thoughts are…I have looked at a cargo van, but we like having the truck (f150) for use around the house. I am on the fence between a 10 or 12 ft v-nose single axle. I will be using the trailer for storage of all my gear, and will be soon adding a wfp system to the arsenal.

Does anyone have insight? I want it to fit all the gear inside, including a 24 extension ladder(which means 12ft v, unless I can get a good deal on a ladder rack). What about the vertical supports? 16oc vs 24oc? I think I want to mount hose reels directly to the trailer.

What are your brand preferences? What about barn vs. ramp door? I like the advertising space on the ramp, but the barn is less space consuming when open.

Any and all opinions please!

Thanks!

forgot to add…pics of layouts would be great too!

I have a 5x10 enclosed trailer with a v nose. I added the extra side door and 6 ft overhead so I can stand up in it. I wish Igot the ramp rather then barn doors but for about 25 bucks I built two little ramps to get my ez pure, and hose cart out. If I could go back and build it again I would have went with a 6x12.

If you’re ever going to put a tank in it(100 gallon or larger) for a wfp setup, consider a tandem axle. Mine is a 6x14 with tandem axels and a ladder rack. Hose reels got mounted to the floor along with the tanks. Tanks are mounted with ez track. The poles are housed in PVC mounted to the ceiling. I’ve got a garage storage unit mounted at the nose to hold all my storage containers with work gear. I’m glad I have barn doors because it can fit in a tighter spot not needing to lower a 6ft rear door. I’ll post pics once my stackable hose reels show up.

I think you’ll be happier with a barn door for the same reason Brennon mentioned. The ramp needs at least 6-7 more feet of parking space to lower it. I had one when I delivered furniture for my last business. It was great for a dolly or hand truck to roll in and out of, but it made it hard to find parking. I like the barn doors, even had them on a Suburban I drove for many years.

Excuse the ignorance, but why the need for a tank? Is it for use on commercial jobs where water access is limited?

Yup, I am in the same boat!
I have an open trailer right now for my set up since I am just starting at WFP so it will be in short order to pick up a trailer. I will prolly be locked into a tandem axle since I will be hauling my water and need a min of 12ft. IMO you just cant go wrong having a little over kill for size and weight
By the time you add racks, reels, poles, tank and filters there would not be much space if you are in a 10’ trailer.
lol, just saw cleaqrviewjohjosh’s post.

The need for hauling water in my area is due to no access to water on commercial jobs and the residential jobs around here have water that not only turn the house orange but the well water is so bad it would more than likely burn through any filter system and ruin the media in not time. High iron here is no joke, I have even seen homes with orange sludge called Iron bacteria

Do you have any artwork on the back of trailer? If so, do you mind sending a pic. I am interested in seeing how peolpe have wrapped the back of the trailer, considering the barn door hardware.

Yea I do, I’m out of town when I get back in town next week I will send it.

Before I even read your post, I was saying to self … GO BIG!

Definitely get a 12 footer, 6 foot head clearance at least,Tandem axle w/ brakes, V-Nose for fuel efficiency and a fold down ramp

This is our next ticket …

I would get that same trailer mrwindow showed in his post but in black. 6x12 tandem axle, v nose, with the side door and barn doors on the back.

Here’s a video of our setup. Works pretty well but would definitely make some changes next time. This trailer is a 6x10 (too small) single axle. Side door is a must for our next trailer. We have since added a second axle to support the weight. I’ll see if I can get a current picture.
