I got the triumph angled 6" mk3, recently. Anytime I use a 4 to 6 inch razor, it never seems to lay flat on the window. Same thing with the triumph. I know it’s angled, that’s not what I’m having a problem with. When I run the blade across the glass, there are two half-inch spots where the blade contacts the glass - and I’m holding the handle at about parallel to the pane… even a little closer to the pane. so the blade is at apprx 15 degrees to the glass. (ok, long time since geometry class, maybe I got that backwards)… anyhoo, the angle to the glass is as narrow as I can get it.
I feel like if I press harder, I’m going to scratch the glass…
If I turn it around, so that I’m using it without the angle, it works better. I got the angled mk3 thinking it would be useful on a pole.
Make sure the blade cartridge or the inner part off the scraper itself is not gunked up with debris. The debris can prohibit the blade from lying perfectly flat in the cartridge. When this happens the blade will be kind of wavy and you’ll have those gaps where the blade did not have contact with the glass.
What Richard said. In addition, it is difficult to place a cartridge/blade slide* with blade into the slot if they are not perfectly flat – it will feel as though you are forcing it in.
I had the same problem with two unger blades. Was never able to fix it. I figured it was a bad batch or they were tossed around in the shipping and got bent. I had them too long so I never really tried to bring them back. After that I just stuck with my 4 inch Ettore. Not really useful for CCU but I don’t get any calls for CCU so it don’t matter to me. You say you have this issue with 4 and 6 inch blades and the mk3? I take it you have other handles you are using? At least thats how I am reading it. I would look at the storage of your razor blades and the tool itself. I used to pile all my stuff in a construction bag. I bent 1 18 inch channel and now everything hangs in it’s own clip so there is nothing pressing on anything bendable.
thanks. It’s a new scraper, so there would be no debris. I’ll try turning it around or a new blade, as karlosdaze suggested. The blade in it is the one that was shipped with the scraper.
In the past, I had used Unger 6" scrapers. I never had any luck with that one so I resorted to using a 1" scraper on everything. It was time consuming, to say the least.
I was able to use the scraper yesterday - on my first job (woohoo) - it seemed like I got it to go flat a couple times by pressing harder, but it was inconsistent. However, it worked fine when I turned the angled handle around so that the razor was more flat with the glass.
Same here. Works awesome turned around. New scraper should not be like this. Even my $5 walmart 4" is straight. I just dont want to change a new blade if a possible defect and want to return the blades. Need it to work the other way. Is it the cheap blade that is put into it? Wondering before i return it.
